Dahlia, Our life doesn't have to be falling apart for alcohol to be a problem. It sounds like you do consider alcohol to be a problem and that's what matters. Everyone seems to have their own path to sobriety. For some AA works, some reach out for support online, others go to rehab or their doctor. Finding support here and using every other support I could think of was what worked for me. You need to get enough supports in place so it does work, change things up. Get rid of the booze in your house if you need to, start evening walks---whatever works. There is really no "best" time to stop. If you are motivated now, then take advantage of it. It is hard at the beginning but it does get easier. I tried to stop a few times and found out what worked for me. There are many stories and threads on this website that are a great place to start. Life is possible without alcohol and in fact, it is much better. Turns out that we really don't need it like we thought we did. Good luck and keep posting!
