Hi Volare,

I am doing well, thanks.  Day 20 for me today.  Great job sitting in a beer garden and not drinking!!  I hear you about constantly thinking about alcohol.  IT sure isn't easy but it is worth it.  How are you doing now?

Speaking of that, I have been reading an excellent blog called "Tired of Thinking About Drinking".  I signed up for her 100 day challenge for quitting drinking and I have been reading through her blog for her first month of quitting.

Take good care and yes, it does seem that each day gets a little easier!

Hi Julie,
doing really well...today sat in a beer garden at the pub and enjoyed tonic water instead of wine. Liked the fact I wasn't sleepy afterwards and felt energised for the rest of the day. I did come to a realisation a few days agothat alcohol still had a hold on me as I was constantly thinking about it...like how to avoid it rather than urges. So I told myself it's not going to have that hold on me and I should stop thinking about it. So I do feel that I am distantancing  myself from it more and more. ..and each day is getting easier. How are you doing?

Hi Volare,

Wondering how things are going for you?  Great job on fighting the craving for alcohol on your spa day!  Also, good to hear of the positives that you are finding along the way of sobriety.

Amazing Volare!

I love the reframing of your self talk you are doing too! Nice work. Be sure to be very present to this success and celebrate your effort - you deserve it.

Be sure to update us on how it goes.

Cheap or not...warm or not it doesn't matter when  you are tryiing to be a buzz. If you drink it at this point in the process it's just going to be your brain (AV) telling you to do it to get a buzz not because you really like it.  Right now it's a raw need that your AV is trying to fill. Takes time to be away from it to rebuild those roads.  Hang in there you're doing great!

Thanks again ND....I am telling myself it will probably be cheap, warm, champers anyway....and  as I'm having some beauty treatments...a drink would just introduce toxins back into my body....So I think with some self talk on the negativity of alcohol before the spa day, I can talk myself out of it. Thanks for your reply.

Volare--it can be very anxiety provoking to have to face a trigger or time when you will have to make the decsion to drink or not to drink.
If you feel like the one glass of champagne will set you off on a binge then say no.....if you think you can handle one and walk away then try it.

I will tell you that you will enjoy the spa day more if you don't have it.  And if you are anxious about it then it will kind of mess up your spa day, yes? So if you make a decision to have sparkling apple cider or tea will you feel ok about that? I think you'll feel very proud if you pass this up. And it will be a  point of reprograming your brain.  Seriously, after not drinking for 8 day's (which is awsome, by the way!)  your body is just starting to come out of it a little.  Your mind is calming and the web that alcohol has built in your brain will begin breaking down.  You might want to consider staying away longer before you try again. And I have found that it's almost self defeating to count day's.  I would get so hung up on the day's.  It is something to be proud of---but think of this.....Alcohol is a choice you make. You have a choice to drink or not to drink. There will be other times you can have champagne there will be other spa day's but, right now you are in the middle of detoxing yourself from a 2 bottle of wine per day habit, I wouldn't do it. But, as you know that choice is yours to make--not alcohol's choice not your AV bossing you around.

Look at it like this----is a hang over a reward? Is a disappointment a reward? No, it sucks to be hung over and it sucks to beat yourself up.  Hang in there Volare you're doing great!! You can do this and you'll feel so much better!!

Have managed 8 days without a drink....which going from two bottles of wine a day to nothing, I'm proud of myself. But today, I am  Trying to remind myself alcohol isn't a treat! I'm Off next week for a spa day where a glass of bubbly will be served...been thinking About it in anticipation as in the past I used alcohol as a reward.
So now I am trying to reprogramme my brain to not look at it in that way. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
