Hi Driver8,

How did it go?

There are some tips on how to handle social pressure to drink in the "dealing with difficulties" section.

How did it go Driver8? Usually I was that obnoxious drunk asking everyone to drink. Drinking till everybody put down their plate after eating. I would grab a bite here and there but my main focus was drinking. Later on when I entered the fellowship of AA, I realized that we could live a sober life by working the 12 steps and having a pshycic change. I am on the way to completing 9 years this september, a sober obsession free life for which I am so grateful to AA.

It's a slippery slope. My sponsor says "Sit in a barber seat long enough eventually you will get a hair cut".
When I go out with heavy drinkers (not often) I find them annoying to be around. Try it and see, the conversations are make less sense with every drink, when they are entoxicated I find I can't put up with the same conversation being repeated constantly. Oh the drunk plans they make, the problems they solve while drunk. The talking about others down falls to make them look better. You are going into the "Lions Den" with no deffence. Hiding your 10 days of sobrioty because drunks may not accept you. If they are alcoholic they may take your lead and join you.
When I go out I drink virgin Rye and Cokes and lots of them LOL cause I like a drink in my hand. No hang over no DUI when drinking no regrets no black outs because they are virgin Rye and Cokes.

Some friends are coming over tonight and one is a big drinker, like me.  However, this is my 10th day without alcohol and I really don't want to participate.  Nobody knows I've stopped, although I'm sure my wife must notice some difference.  She's a very light, occasional drinker.  Not sure how to handle this.  Don't want to make big deal about it.  Anyone have any good excuses for not drinking?  There will be some pressure.
