Hi Patches 1953,
Sorry you are having a rough go of things. Sounds like you’re a coordinator or such and perhaps have a bunch of volunteers you’re attempting to work with which is why you are trying to appease everyone. Just postulating of course but if they were employees they likely wouldn’t be so difficult. If I were in your shoes I would listen to what they have to say and ask them exactly how they would execute their own proposals. If it’s in the budget, tell them to go for it but that they have to make it happen, not you. If it’s a non-starter, tell them so and why.
Drinking, as we all know, solves nothing and only exacerbates problems. The brief euphoria we experience is so short lived that we inevitably beat ourselves up after our blackout of course. Then we can deal with possibly weeks of poor sleep, maybe itchiness, swelling, joint pain, and never mind what it’s doing to our bones and organs.
Patches, we’ve all experienced seemly overwhelming obstacles, which is why we may have turned to booze in the first place and ultimately landed here. Many people here will tell you that dealing with the actual issues rather than medicating to dull the symptoms is far more proactive.
Your job is just a job. Change what you can, accept what you can’t and recognize that there really is a difference. Remember, five years from now, what will it matter? However, five years from now should you continue to drink, where do you think you’ll be then?
You’re smart, strong and determined. Don’t let anyone ever try to tell you different!
