Hi Ralph,

Withdrawal can be very unpleasant and even dangerous for some people. If you are concerned about how you are feeling it is a good idea to visit your doctor.

Hi Ralph, 

Happy to hear you're remaining AF after your last slip. It took me quite awhile to continuously sleep well. When I was drinking I'd usually wake several times a night and virtually never had a restorative sleep. When I first quit drinking early this year it took about three weeks before I consistently slept well and to my knowledge, I have no other health concerns. This most recent quit 29 days ago, it only took about a week and a half. Now I sleep very well but I also exercise every day and have a healthy diet most of the time.

You will feel a whole lot better but you do have to give yourself time. You must remember that you've been poisoning your body for a long time and it needs to clear the toxins from your system. You may want to consider juicing vegetables to expedite the cleanse and drink lots of water.

You'll get there Ralph, you just need to be patient and let your body heal itself.

Thanks all. Back on track and avoiding social situations where my old habits might kick in. Trying to decide when I can manage that again as I am feeling like a bit of a hermit. However I am not sleeping well, very tired and lethargic to the point of feeling light headed, dizzy and faint. I have some fairly serious health conditions that might account for this but I am wondering to what degree my fairly recent abstinence could account for this? I do have moments of energy and light after managing a long walk or just feeling GOOD again looking at the sun in the trees. Realizing I haven't felt that way for ages. These moments are quite inspiring but I somehow thought I would be feeling way better sooner. Appreciate all support and advice. Thank you. Ralph

Hi Ralph,

Welcome! Congrats on getting started.
 
In the beginning, we recommend avoiding social situations that involve alcohol. Try to plan social events that do not involve alcohol. If you must go to a socail event that involves alcohol then have a plan in place. What will you do if you having a craving? How will you distract yourself? Check out the Emergency Coping Plan in the education section - this is useful to know.

Thank you for messages of support. I had one relapse night a few days ago and dry again for last 4 days. I really need to be careful about my social situations. Out with old friends with whom I always drank ...not ready for that it seems. But don't want to become a hermit either.
