Swollen Joints

9 years ago 0 421 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
TS, I have always been a big tea, soda, water drinker. I have been tested with each of my pregnancy's and with my last was borderline pregnancy induced diabetes. But I have lost the 25 pounds and am back to pre preg weight and they said if I watch my diet I should b ok. I do crave sugar lately. Like tons of it--- and fried foods. But I think that has to do w not drinking. Because I'm normally a clean eater---just made up for it by abusing my body with alcohol of any kind. But I will keep an eye on it, thanks.  I am really glad u are on here!

Thank you all for responding. Dave, I'm so glad to know that your pain and stiffness is gone now. Did the swelling disappear as well if you had any? I have a little stiffness, periodic mild pain but my biggest concern is the swelling.of my knuckles. I was wondering if anyone had noted that the swelling had resolved itself once they abstained from alcohol. When I do the crimp test (attempting to fold your fingers in flat on themselves) there is a 1/4" gap. Not good. I know that various other factors can come into play such as gluten and dairy intolerance but right now I'm focusing on just remaining AF although I am moderating on the other factors. I am drinking copious amounts of water and concentrating on a healthy diet.

Nodrama, I'm a little concerned with your statement "but I'm always thirsty." If you haven't had a glucose tolerance test for awhile you may want to consider it to check for diabetes. If that checks out ok, maybe review your diet. Note how many ounces of fluids (and type of fluids) you are consuming to see if it is of any significance. Just a thought.

Drink LOTS of water and re-hydrate. Alcohol is really bad for joint pain and aggravates arthritis if you have it. I found I had a lot of joint pain and stiffness when I drank a lot. It's gone now.

All the best,

I have had sore swollen hand joints for like three yrs and didn't know why! I never thought it would be related to drinking! It is better but I'm alway thirsty! And irritable. Feel like a rope coming undone....frayed. Been taking herbs to help.

toxic,

Dave is right, excessive alcohol can have a negative impact on your mind and body.  If you are abstaining, wait a couple of weeks, if the swelling doesn't improve, check with your doctor to determine any medical issues.

The weather is getting pretty warm as well, hydration with water is essential!

Hi TS,

I noticed the drinking REALLY aggravated my joints, and when I stopped and stayed really hydrated it helped immensely. Excessive alcohol has a negative impact on your joints that leads to all sorts of problems.

Also, thank you for the positive comments\ feedback on my blog. I don't update it enough and I have a couple of things I need to add that are long over-due. If someone leaves a comment there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for responding to a comment, so I'm responding here. I hope it helps in some small way to keep you and others motivated and moving forward or , at least, give them a different perspective. Your feedback and responses to others here is always motivating and extremely valuable.

All the best,

Dave

I am curious to know if anyone has experienced swollen joints after drinking. I know it is common to get swollen feet and ankles and even knees but what about your hands. I was wondering if anyone had swollen knuckles that went back to normal after an extended time of abstinence.

Just might be a huge motivator to remain AF if alcohol is in any way at the root of arthritis.

TS
