stress induced anxiety

Dear Becky, I hope you are feeling better. A high stress job can cause what you are describing, the other posts are excellant what they wrote about decreasing it. I agree about meds, I am the same way, Zoloft gave me chest pains too and some heart palps, it was too activating for me, I recently went back on Paxil, bad headaches and electric shocks in the face, I though that only happened when you went off it! I went to the Doctors today about it. The good news is the broncitis is clearing up, how are you feeling? Did youre's clear up I hope. Please let me know how you are feeling, God bless you, Debbie.

Thanks Lulu and Caitlin, I really appreciate your replies so fast. I am going to take your advice, I am going to get me a yoga DVD and hopefully find a yoga class in my area, I need to take care of myself and if that means quitting my job and finding something less stressful, I will do that also. I just need to learn to relax and take care of myself. I hate to keep going to the doctor for every little symptom, it's costing me a fortune. If I can do this without meds it would be great, I have an enormous fear of meds because of my bad experiences, Paxil did help some when I was on it, but going off was a nightmare, the zoloft caused chest pains. I have thought about lexapro, but am afraid because of my previous bad experiences. I just wanted to thank the both of you for your advice, I am going to get a yoga tape this week. I just have to learn to relax and then maybe this weird feeling in my head and chest pains will stop. Thanks again, Becky

Hi Becky. When I'm having a really stressful week I often get so tense in my upper body that I actually have trouble breathing, and I have to lean on a counter and hunch over just to take a full breath, so I know how hard it is to de-stress. Since realizing that I had developed an actual anxiety disorder from too much stress, I have sought out a few different avenues for relaxation. A few things to try or consider: Excercise: Tai Chi - if you want a really calming meditative activity, or kick-boxing if you want to get out pent-up emotions! The arts - make a regular date to go (even by yourself - lots of people do) to the symphony; or take an art class, or go back to a craft that you used to enjoy (for me, I discovered scrapbooking and have made tons of new friends as a result too). Herbal Teas - they really help to calm and relax. My favourite is chai green tea (the combined version), along with a good book - I've always wanted to join a book club but don't yet have the time as my toddler keeps me on my toes when I'm not at work. But if you have the time, I think a book club would help keep your mind active in a recreational/relaxing kind of way. Get out!! After having my baby, I became so engulfed by being "mommy" that I stopped being me - so recently I have reconnected with lots of friends and now I go out for fun about once a week, whether it's for dinner with my husband or just coffee with the girls. And finally but most importantly, do a really hard-core self examination about what's REALLY stressing you out. Is it just work? Or are there people/memories/issues plaguing you with negative thoughts and feelings that are eroding your coping mechanisms? If you can identify things that are behind your stress, make a step-by-step plan to counteract them. Anyhow, those are my tips. Hope they help! Caitlin

Hi Becky i thought id let you know i started doing Yoga a few weeks ago and i love it i started off hiring a dvd from my local library then i bought my own now i have enrolled in yoga and meditation classes that start a week Thursday which is a bit frightening but i am going to do it.Practice slow breathing i find that helps me too.And when i notice myself rushing around i make a mental note to slow down breath slower and deeper and it usually works.Goodluck and take care. My anxiety has been sooo high and I feel on edge most of the time, my chest hurts, I have the weird feeling in my head a lot to the point of being disoriented. I am in a high stress job, it never stops during the day. I am contantly busy. I do accounts payable, benefits, and payroll for a University. I like my job, but it has been too much lately. I am trying to slow down and not let it get to me, but I don't seem to be successful. I just feel like I need to be in the hospital to get it under control. By the end of the day I just crash, but it's so hard to relax because of all the stress I feel. I may need to go back on meds, if I can't get this under control. Does anyone have any ideas of ways that I can destress. I have to do something. I can't stand this weird feeling in my head and my anxiety being sky high. I would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance. Becky
