deep tissue massage???

It's spooky how many issues we have in common right now Alison!! I have been wracking my brain for the past few weeks trying to decide that exact question. I suffer a LOT of guilt for sending my little guy to daycare full-time. Plus I miss him a lot during the day. I know daycare is good socialization, but there are other ways to socialize your kids that don't involve being away from them for 9 hours a day. On the other hand, I went to University for a reason, and while I'm not very satisfied in my current job at the government and would rather work in the non-profit community field, I do feel the need to socialize myself with adults, use my brain in the adult world (which really helps keep your mind off your disorder as you mention) and in many ways it feels like it keeps me busy and sane. I just can't make up my mind between the two extremes. If you go back as a teacher, you would have some good benefits, like I do at the government, including stress leave etc so at least it would be a good field in terms of supportiveness. For me, I think ideally I would like to work part-time, so I'm keeping my eyes open for the right opportunity. You could consider that option as well - maybe start by going back as a sub or a part-time position if there are any available. Hope you are doing well! I can't believe you were close to the tornadoes a few weeks ago... this has been a really bad spring for tornadoes around winnipeg, I'm nervous that it's only a matter of time before one hits us here! Not good for my anxiety levels!!

I hate it when you try to do something to relax and it backfires. I went for a massage at the Wellness Institute (which is attached to the Seven Oaks Hospital) which freaks me out a little bit but I generally can shake it off. However last time the massage therapist kept telling me how my hip was of real concern and I should get a MRI or X ray. Well, nothing like laying there getting a relaxing a massage and being struck by a fit of panic! Of course my mind thinks the worse but she was thinking so I could find out what kinda of exercises would help the tendons/bones, etc. It moments like those you realize your mind doesn't operate like everyone else. :( I gathered from one of your other posts when you refered to your coworkers that you obviously work. I'm a stay at home mom right now but I am looking at going back to work in the next year or two(as a teacher). I was just wondering if you find working helps you in terms of taking your mind off things and not having tons of time to dwell on things. I can't decide if working will make me better or worse. As a teacher there is no way you can leave for doctor appointment's excessively or take many sick days. So it would definately force me live a little bit more normal. So, do you find that working helps you? :quest: can you tell by my use of "faces" I'm really into s c r a p b o o k i n g ?? ;p

Hey Alison - can you believe that coincidence? Of all the people here from all over the world, us two would be from little ol' Winterpeg? That's really cool!! (no pun intended) I'm feeling a fair bit better, but not 100%. Still nauseous, sore, and am a bit obsessed with my heart... have a persistent cough which doc says is sinuses but still makes me very nervous. I'm thinking of asking for tests just to make sure. We go to St. Mary's Road United church. It has 2 services, one is contemporary and one is traditional, we attend the contemporary which has a large projection screen for audio/visuals during the service, and there is a band that plays modern Christian hymns, etc. I don't know much about Springs but I have heard of it, I think it's fairly contemporary also isn't it? Not that there's anything wrong with old fashioned services of course. The massage was from a place called Body Logic in Charleswood. I've spoken with a few people who know massage therapists and they said it shouldn't have hurt that much. Oh well, live and learn!! Caitlin

Caitlin! Are you feeling back to 'normal' yet from the massage? I just noticed one of your posts- You're from Winnipeg- SO AM I!!!! I noticed in another post you attend church. If you don't mind me asking, where do you go? We go to Springs of Living Water. I can't believe you live in Winnipeg! Where did you get your wicked deep massage from anyway? ;)

A massage can make you feel like you have been hit by a car. Make sure that you drink plenty of water because you usually become a bit dehydrated after a massage. When I have one I am always soar the next day, sometimes for a couple of days. Also when I had a panic attack in March I googled it and diagnosed myself with a number of illnesses and disorders. I know how difficult it is and was to stop. But I finally came to the conclusion that it was hurting me not helping me. The only thing that helped me from googling was this website. That was the only good thing from it. Take it from me and from yourself, stop googling! Once you put those symptoms in your mind they are hard to get out. Try putting notes on your computer that remind you not to google. Also have someone hold you accountable. I told my friends and husband and when they saw me on the computer they would always ask me what I was doing. That really helped. Hope this helps a little bit. Take Care

Caitlin, when I read this I thought I may have wrote this for a second! ;) You are talking my language. I have gone for a lot of massages and they have told me many times after just a regular/relaxing massage that you might feel nauseous after because its the toxins being released from your body. They always tell me to drink a lot of water to flush it out. And especially after a deep tissue massage you would experience that feeling. I myself have left many massages in a panic from feeling dizzy, whoozy, sick feeling which turns to panic which then counteracts the entire point of massage! :( I have googled so many diseases I consider myself an expert in it. And you just ALWAYS comes across the worst case causes. One of my psychologist's number one rule is not to go on the computer to google. It's a bottomless pit of endless information and for every website that says one thing, another says different. There's no end when you're one the internet. Trust me..I know for many many many hours of experience. Rarley does googling something make you feel better. These feelings after a massage I've had many times, you gave yourself a double whammy with the deep tissue. YOU ARE OKAY ON THIS ONE! :)

Has anyone had a deep tissue massage, and if so was it incredibly painful (I knew it would be uncomfortable but it was like 2nd only to childbirth!) and did you have any after effects like nausea and headache? I think those are likely just anxiety syptoms, since she really worked into my neck like you wouldn't believe, and the whole time all I could think was "how many veins is she rupturing, how many blood clots are being dislodged"... I know that's ridiculous, but by the time I got home I felt sooooo ill, barely managed not to throw up. Then of course did the usual google for symptoms, which you know you will inevitably find on the net if you look hard enough. I have GOT to STOP googling for symptoms and worst case scenarios, I just feel like if I don't do the research I am putting myself at risk... Has anyone managed to overcome the need to contstantly search for symptoms on the net? Anyone had these effects after a deep massage? Any help appreciated... Caitlin
