Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

11 years ago 0 409 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Mogas, this morning I'm really bummed. I drank all weekend, and I feel pretty bad about myself. As always, I never get drunk, but it's steady drinking from about noon until I go to bed. I went through three bottles of wine in two days. My kids are starting to comment about how much wine I drink, and I HATE that. I think the MoGa thing isn't working for me.

I downloaded the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book this morning, and started reading it. Since I'm non-religious, the "trust God" arguments aren't very effective for me, but the book has a lot of good stuff in it. I look forward to the help I can get from it. I have also been looking into something called SMART Recovery, which is a cognitive-therapy based abstinence program. Are there any threads on this site along those lines?

I'm drinking. Not drunk, just the usual. I want to abstain, but I don't......

PJ I'm sorry to see you're having such a rough time.  What can you do that would help lift your spirit?  Is there anything you really enjoy doing that you can share with others that would help you feel better?

Marylizy I feel as if I'm free!  It's an amazing feeling.  I do still think about work and stress over it a bit but just because I know things will be a disaster for a while until they figure out what has to be done, and what deadlines need to be met.  Otherwise I feel so much better and I'm doing things that I enjoy.  Yesterday I spent the day painting our spare room.  I have hated that room for years and now I'm quite happy with it, I just need to restore the hardwood floor in there and then I'll be satisfied.  I am very sore today because I overdid it yesterday but it makes me happy to do things like this.  I wish I could open my own home decor business, I would love doing this everyday.

Elizabeth I hope things are getting better for you.  Like Marylizy said, we all hit a rough patch now and then, but we are aware of our slips and find a way to get back on track.

Turquoise how are you doing?  We didn't hear from you yesterday?  I hope you are doing well.

I have plans to drink tonight.  I am going to see my favourite cousin tonight, she's home for Easter and my sister in law is also home for the weekend.  I missed both of them so much.  They're bringing their boyfriends and were going to have a bit of a party.  Today I will be very busy getting the spare room put back together and preparing snacks for this evening.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hey Everyone, Turquoise, Saddie, Camiol, Marylizzy, MizzySoleile (and all the others I couldn't swift through chats fast enough to state your name) I love you.

I may seem like a dramatic queen of self absorbtion.  I may appear as a man who has mixed feelings about everything.  I posted a thread, talking about being depressed etc.  It was removed and I can understand, most likely due to legal purposes.

I understand why, but this was a large venue on top of counselling for me.  I feel I don't fit the 'form' of life to fit this site.  The only reason I posted my feelings because I felt safe.  I felt this was an avenue to express a lot of emotions.  Unfortunately, I was wrong.  I'm sorry to disrupt this forum with my burst of anger.

Hi all. Looks like a lot is happening. I've been through a rough patch and hope to keep up the moderation of the past two days. Keep the success stories coming, Cam, Turq.

Thanks Turquoise I feels so good to be out of that place, my stress level has been seriously reduced....now I just need to get the pain under control.  I actually spoke to my manager today, he's a bit of a dick, never believed me when I was off with back pain in the past.  This time because there's a possibility I have MS, he's made a complete turnaround and is very concerned for me.  Not sure if its genuine but at least this time I'm not being made to feel guilty for being off work.  He said he just wants me to get better and hopes that I'm ok.  It's nice to not feel pressure about work.

Luckily so far I've had no desire to drink through the day and I'm getting as much rest and relaxation as possible.  I'm trying to take care of me, it's been a long time since I've done that.  I am not doing physio at the moment, I'm seeing a chiropractor 3-4 times a week for my back, but I need to find out what's causing the terrible burning pain in my hands and feet.(that's the possible MS symptom).

Well I'm off to run a couple errands before I pick up my daughter at school.  I will check in later.
