Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

Turquoise just checking in to see how you're doing.  Is everything ok, it been a few days since you posted.  I'm doing so so.  I drank a few drinks Saturday night and again last night I had three glasses of wine.  Time to check myself before it gets out of hand again.  I had the second MRI on my low back yesterday.  It's not for MS testing, just to check for more disc damage because my back has gotten a lot worse in the last few months.  I'm seriously considering going to see a neurologist in Michigan.  I'm only about an hour and a half away from very good medical professionals in Michigan.  I'd have to pay for it but it'd be worth it if they can figure out where the nerve pain is coming from.  My dr seems to have given up, just accepts what the MRI said and no need to investigate further.  That really bothers me cause the MRI is not the be all to end all tests.

Marylizy how are you doing?  Is everything still going great with you and your beau?

Well I'm off to drive my daughter to school then begin some bio magnetic  laser treatment on my feet to try to heal the nerve pain.  Have a great day everyone and I hope to see posts from you soon.

Good lord talk about typos on my previous post.....I hate autocorrect. I did as I said and didn't drink anymore mojitos. Man it feels good to have little desire to drink.

Hey Turquoise great to hear from you.  I actually did a neurologist in March, he was he one that suggested MS.  I am thinking I need to call his office and see if I can get in to see him again without a referral.  I suggested I see another neuro to my dr and she said "but you already saw one".  Wow she's so very helpful.

I'm having a weak night....I'm drinking a mojito.  I've already had two, but I put away all the ingredients so I won't make another.  I have no desire to get buzzed lately.

One thing I'm very excited about.....I'm putting my mustang on the road tomorrow.  I've missed driving her.....I hope yes now is done for good now.

Camiol, I am also glad that the MS diagnosis was negative! I hope you find out something soon. Can't you ask your doctor to refer you to a neurologist? That seems like it would be the next step, right? Not just a regular doctor, but a specialist.  I've been doing pretty well, but my kids have been sick. I had two glasses of wine yesterday, but that's all this week. And have a ton of work to do from home today, but I hope you're all doing well.

Hi Camiol,

So glad to hear you have another month off. That's fantastic! I can only imagine the relief you must be feeling.

Continue to do as much research as you can. Knowledge is such a powerful thing. Have you looked into natural remedies for neuropathy? I was just reading an interesting article on foods and neuropathy on LiveStrong. Sorry with the incessant suggestions I just wish I could do something to help you with the pain!

Continue to keep us updated and continue to enjoy your freedom from work

Hi Ashley, I would consider psychosomatic pain if this started when all my stress began, but it's something that's been going on with me for 4-5 years now and each year when it flares up, it's more intense.  My doctor was convinced I had carpal tunnel syndrome but this pain is a fire in my hands and feet.  It first started in the hands which made her think carpal tunnel but the last two years it's spread to my feet.  I've been doing a lot of reading about this type of pain and it seems it could be a neuropathy of unknown origin.  I read an article from a neurologist who specializes in this kind of pain and he says that it's unfortunate but many people have this pain and it's never known what's causing it.  I sure hope Im not one of those cases.

My doctor had taken me off work until the end of May now and I have to have another MRI (oh joy) on my low back.  I'm relieved to be off for another month, if I never go back it'd be too soon.  I don't miss it at all and I have no guilt whatsoever about abandoning my job.  I feel so much better, my drinking has greatly decreased, and I am sure my family sees a huge difference in my overall mood and outlook on things.  When I thought I was going back to work next Monday I was a basket case filled with dread.  I literally felt sick to my stomach.  It's sad how much I hate my job.

Turquoise, I hope things are going well for you and that you will be posting soon.  I'm wondering how you are.

MaryLizy, how are you doing?  Hope all is well.....were you able to work out some sort of arrangement with the dogs?

Hi Camiol,

I am very glad to hear the test came back negative! I can also understand why you are so frustrated. Have you considered seeing another doctor in looking for a diagnosis? You may also want to look up psychosomatic pain - I just mention this because I know you have been under a tremendous amount of stress and physchosomatic pain is very real but very hard to diagnose.

Thinking of you and sending positive energy your way.

Take care,

Yes the test came back negative and I'm very pissed off.  Not because it's negative, but because my dr isn't digging any further to find out why I'm in so much pain, AND she is trying to force me to go back to work when I can't sit for more than a few minutes at a time and the pain in my foot is unbearable at times.  She's a heartless woman.  I'm fighting it all the way and if worse comes to worst I'll go to a walk on clinic, but I shouldn't have to do that, my doctor should be supportive and trying to find out what is wrong with me.  As far as she's concerned if she doesn't have a diagnosis then I need to go back to work.  What about the pain I have, am I forced to work like this?  What is wrong with that woman?

I've abstained the last couple nights and I thankfully am not craving alcohol.....I truly believe that my job drives me to drink.  I seriously need to find a new job that doesn't stress me out to the point I feel I have to drink to feel better.  The desire to drink is diminished greatly since I've been off work.  It's amazing how much better I feel.  Even though I've had a couple slips, it's a lot better than what the past has been like and I feel like I'm  heading down the right path now.

Hang tough Turquoise, you will reach your goal.  You're a very strong woman and I have faith in you.

Did you find out anything about the MS? When will you know? I did very well until last night, and it was the wine.... I'm too tired right now to promise abstinence, but I went all day today without a drink. We'll see how long it lasts. Good luck Camiol & everyone else!

Hi Samantha.....I know my BIG problem is white wine.  I need to keep it away from me at all times.  I can have a beer or two and not feel the need to drink more, but wine takes hold of me and I lose all control.  There's just something about wine that makes my brain turn to mush.  This week I'm going to fight hard to abstain or at the very least not drink wine.  I had two beer yesterday and was fine with that.

Turquoise how are you doing?  Did you have a good weekend?  I was terribly sick Saturday afternoon.  I ended up with a serious migraine, nausea and chills.  I spent the entire day in bed except when I cooked dinner.  After dinner is when the nausea got really bad, I probably shouldn't have eaten.

I hope everyone is doing well.  Please check in when you have some free time.
