Hi,
Well I'm on day 11 , worked alot this week so that helped cause I was in bed early everynight. I had a friend stop by on Wed. night and she laughed out loud when I told her I was trying to cut back on booze or better yet give it up all together. She didn't stay very long once she realized that I was serious.Does this meen I'm gonna lose all my friends.... man that sucks. Any way... last weekend I treated my boyfriend and I to a nice dinner. Looks like he's trying to cut back too...
this weekend we're going on a weekend drive down to the bay of fundy. Hopefully that will keep the urges to drink at ease. I have my fingers crossed !
PS ..... waking up without a hangover feels great ! Like I said befor , whenever the urge gets strong I keep thinking of the worst hangover I ever had ( which was recently), and it really helps...

Hello bern,

Great work on staying strong last night! Be sure to reward yourself for maintaining your resolve. Take a look at your toolbox under Dealing with Difficulties and then Dealing with Desires. This section will touch upon ways that others have used to deal with strong urges, desires or thoughts. How was this section helpful to you? Which methods will you try?

Members, how do you cope with tempting situations?

Wow ! I didn't have a drink last night .... I just kept thinking of the worst hangover that I ever had , and it helped ease the urge ! I honestly don't remember the last time I've gone 5 days without at least 4 drinks... let alone a Friday AND Saturday night ! Let's see what today will bring , Sunday afternoons are usually another weak moment for me.

don't say AA, been there, done that.

Dear Robbo, would like to know what you mean by been there done that? Todays AA you got to be careful which meetings you go to. There are meetings that have turned into group therapy kind of gigs. The actual program of recovery is spiritual. Getting straight with yourself, with fellow men and with your higher power and of being maximum usefullness to others. Its not about just going to meetings.. Going to meeting works until you get drunk.

Hi Robbo and bern,

Welcome both of you to the site and seriously congrats on taking the first step.  This place has a lot of great information, health educators and members. Come here often, post lots and know that you are not alone.

I kept myself motivated knowing that hard work would pay off. I had to rebuild trust with everyone that I cared about..but it was definitely worth the hard work.

Your newfound friend, Ray
