Day 1 - again!

Thank you very much!  I've been to my third meeting this week, and I think I have found a sponsor recommended by someone I knew at the meeting.  On Monday I meet with a LADC so hopefully between the counselor, a sponsor and meetings I will find MY solution.  I've been a heavy weekend drinker for 2 years and it has to stop for both my family and myself!  So far I think I am lucky as I am only emotionally attached to alcohol, not physically.....I'll be doing a lot of reading over the long holiday weekend!  Hoping for a very happy & healthy new year!

Cathy,
That is wonderful to know you are attending AA meetings. Hopefully people hooked you with a Big Book and you have started studying the book. Unfortunately modern day meetings don't focus on the solution. Also, see if you find a sponsor who understands the program and just not totally relies on going to meetings. Dr. Silkworth talks about a psychic change and in AA they call it spiritual awakening by working the12 steps of AA.

Yes, I have considered that I am an alcoholic.  That is why I became a member of this site, and attending AA meetings.  Thank you!

Even considered being an alcoholic? Alcoholism is a disease: mental, physical and spiritual and emotional. Can't keep away from it and once we take the first drink, we are off to the races. When not drinking we are miserable and emotionally bankrupt.

Cathy,

You are taking the first step and this is commendable. Have you looked through the site?  How are you starting to prepare?  Take this step by step and day by day.  Make some goals and have some rewards to help you congratulate yourself when you reach them.

Using coping mechanisms and changing your routines will help you with triggers and temptations.  Try also using the journal every day to help you in addressing areas of concern and triggers.  Post with us and let us help.

We are ready when you are.

Hi my name is Cathy and it's day one again....I'm so disgusted with myself, and my wonderful husband just doesn't know what to do with me anymore!  I don't know why I drink the way I do, and I really wish I could go more than a couple days!  I really need to get it together and stop drinking for the rest of my life!  I'm so afraid that I am going to lose my husband and my wonderful 3 year old daughter!  I'm not being fair to either of them and they deserve to have the "sober" me.  I'm so tired of being sorry and full of regret all the time!  I need to get it right this time!
