Hi Jeanie, Yes,the weekend again. I have to work tomorrow, my weekend starts on Saturday.Of course that didn't stop me from opening a bottle of wine to go with our pizza tonight. I think it's a good plan to alternate alcohol, pop or juice. I've done that my entire life,I'm drinking a bottle of water along with my wine this very minute!! When I think about it, that has probably been the reason that I can cut down and don't feel that I need to completely abstain.I know that I can have a drink later. I am also a very thirsty person, always need lots of liquid. So I have water with me all day, drinking alcohol or not. When I used to go to the bar with friends I would pretend that my Coke was spiked with Rye or Vodka. My Water was Vodka and Seven, try to snag a lime wedge and they'll think you're having a cocktail. People would go crazy if I told them I wasn't drinking .I also used to take my glass to the washroom at the bar and fill it up with water at the sink.I found that the Bartenders, wait staff had no interest in getting me a glass of water.I guess I should have tipped better! I think I'm a few years older than you. I love to stay home with my Husband and share a nice meal, wine, movie.Life is good,I partied hearty for years now I love staying home and relaxing. I want to plant some tomatoes, peppers and herbs for summer.I like to grow all the ingredients for fresh salsa.Makes me feel green. Take care and I will also check back for you this weekend. Bye Friend, take it easy.

Hi winegeek, Well here we are at the weekend again! I am supposed to be seeing the same group of friends I mentioned before. They really like to celebrate and with this nice weather we are finally having I am sure we will all be out and about with the drinks flowing! I just have a hard time because as much as they seem to have, I always feel i like I am the one who can't stop. I try to remember how crap** I felt after last weekends binge but that is not enough to deter me once we have already started. So my plan (I think i read in someone's post as a suggestion) as I really don't want to avoid going out all together, is to alternate my mixed drink with just pop or water. Actually the pop might work better then it won't look as obvious to everyone else (a little lighter on my wallet too!) I will try to check back as much as I can over the weekend, that should help me stick to my goal too a little better. Happy Weekend! Jeanie

Hi Jeanie!! Thanks for posting..I thought you forgot about me! I know what you mean about "friends",trust your instincts. It seems like People like to gossip and see others fail. Everyone that I know also drinks like crazy.I used to drink Vodka too. I would mix it with Coke,it was good. Now I only drink wine ,I am feeling a little bit anxious on the nights that I have not been drinking. It feels like I'm missing something,I want that wine glass in my hand. I've been drinking so much water I feel like a fish.I am stiil thirsty ,yesterday I drank 10x 8 ounces throughout the day and I was still dry.Gloorg,gloorg. It does feel good to cut down, just to be able to see that I can stop. THis morning I reread my stats and it's scary to see how many days I drank last year. How did this happen?? Okay,Jeanie..I am going to go workout and then off to the saltmines for me. Have a great day and email soon.:)

Hi winegeek, Thanks for your reply to my post. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I kind of thought that I didn't need a place like this to share my thoughts, but I am learning that my "so called friends" are a big part of my problem. They all seem to feel that drinking in general is just a social thing. I didn't mention to them that I have concerns nor that I had been looking for help to cut back. I just know that they wouldn't understand. So here I am again looking for support and guidance. I really need to make some changes in my life. You had asked if I was quitting or cutting back. I think for me I will tell myself that I am just cutting back - that is a good goal, because then if I don't have any at all for the day, that is just a bonus. My personal drink of choice these days is vodka, mixed with just about any kind of pop, I am not fussy. Like you, I too have been used that "after work drink to unwind". Hope all is well with you! Talk soon. Jeanie

Hi Jeanie, Nice to meet you.I am a bit leary about posting info and you,re right.... who needs more trouble. I was also surprised about my survey results,I too have not admitted it until last week. I know that I drink too much and yet I can't quite believe it!!:) I love wine and hope than I can smarten up and be able to enjoy alcohol within the Health Canada guielines. What do you drink? Sorry, had to ask. I am very interested in peoples alcohol choices:) Are you trying to totally quit or cut down?? Do you think that people who drink too much are capable of making good decisions about cutting down?? I think that I can cut down but maybe I'm kidding myself again. Please tell me what you are planning so I don't ask you about drinking when you need to avoid all drinks. I don't drink during the day, only in the evening with my husband.I try to space out my drinks .It has been our entertainment and time to unwind together. The last few years it has slowly progressed to heavy drinking. So,that's okay Jeanie. You seem like a very nice lady and I am happy to know you!! Now and we can help each other. Thank you for posting.I'll talk to you later

Hi winegeek, I was hesitant to post at first too for the very same reasons you mentioned. I have enough guilt and paranoia in my life without having to worry about being identified on a site too. It took a long time for me to come to grips with the fact that I need to change my drinking habits. Well, maybe in the back of my mind I knew it all along but tried to carry on like nothing was wrong. Anyway, nice to meet you. I am fairly new here and still finding my way around. So far completing the survey was quite scary. I am still just trying to take it day by day. Some are good, others not so much. Jeanie
