Congrats on getting started. It is very common for people to have to attempt quitting multiple times before they are successful. What did you learn from your past quit attempts? What worked for you and what didn't?

Hey SKHarvey, sounds like your fighting the good fight. I know just how you feel as I was a lifetime smoker as well with many quit attempts. This time though I had more experience under my belt from those other quit attempts which have made my journey successful. It's not easy to give up something that is not only an addiction but a life long habit. You can do this. Concentrate on what you need to do today and don't worry about tomorrow. One minute, one hour, one day at a time is how I approach this. Keep us posted on your progress.

    I quit smoking using Chantix over 11 years ago!  The directions stated to continue smoking and try to cut back the first week.  Well, during that week, the cigarettes started tasting awful and the buzz from smoking went away.  Consequently, everything pleasurable associated with smoking quit on me!   Also, those huge gut wrenching cravings lessened everyday and the Chantix worked exactly as it was supposed to!  After a week, was quit day and luckily I found this site before that day!
 
    Finding the SSC was essential to my quit!  Going through the PROGRAM was a huge help and set me up for success.  Sometimes I spent hours a day on here reading posts here on the forums and if I needed some encouragement, someone was always providing words of wisdom within a few minutes!  It's different now, but the posts from way back then are still here!  There is sooooo much information within these forums.  You can do a search on almost any topic and there will be posts from different members who shared their thoughts on the topic. Read and learn from those who have quit before you.
 
     Keep focused and if you think you are going to cave to the crave, get on here and read some inspirational posts.  Go through your list of coping mechanisms, change your scenery, go for a walk, suck on a straw, chew some gum or ice cubes or grab a carrot!  Do anything to distract yourself for a few short minutes and that crave WILL go away!  This journey can be difficult, but it can be done!  I destroyed my nico-demon after 37 years and you CAN do this too!  Never quit on yourself and you will destroy your nico-demon, too!

  "I have tried to quit before...many times." You just have to keep trying. Hopefully, every time you failed you learned a little more about you addiction. One of these times you're going to make your quit stick, you just need to keep trying. "Woke up craving...but it is survivable." That's good to hear. Maybe the Chantix will give you enough strength to make it through the day today. Don't worry about tomorrow until it comes. Concentrate on today, the here and now. I hope you are still smoke free today. Keep us updated with your progress too, we're here to give you some moral support if needed.

I am using Chantix. Have been smoking for 35 years. I have tried to quit before...many times. Truly hoping that I am strong enough to push through this time. Woke up craving...but it is survivable.
