It's funny how the mind wanders like that... I'm very familiar with the phenomenon. Part of our brain is just reluctant to get the message that we want to quit. That mind-wandering can eventually become kind of funny if you see it with the right attitude. It helped me not take myself so seriously as well :)
hello stella i noticed your in canada. so am i. its early where i am so just playing video games. im at two day now. a lot of times my mind wanders to want to have a smoke and i have to say no!
Day two, how are you doing today? I too quit with the help of the patch. It helped take care of the physical need and let me work on the mental part.
Deep breathing helps curb the urges. Slowly in through the nose, hold, slowly out through the mouth. Four or five times and the urge should be manageable. I've also found that deep breathing helps to handle the stress too. I still use it almost five years into my quit.
i am using nrt patches and inhaler for now. when i was stressed i preocupied my mind and breathed until it passed. and ive smoked for 11 years mostly on.
Welcome to the site. "i just got through something stressful and physically exerting but unlike the usual, i didnt smoke after!" That sounds great! It's hard isn't it? Stress is a BIG trigger for slipping on your quit journey. We have to relearn how to deal with it WITHOUT a cigarette, and that can be hard sometimes.
How long have you smoked? Are you doing this cold turkey or are you using NRT, nicotine replacement therapy? Keep us posted on your progress, and stay strong.
new to the site on day one again. but optimistic. i just got through something stressful and physically exerting but unlike the usual, i didnt smoke after!
i just wanted to say hello and let you all in on my journey.(and have people to be accountable to)
