What makes smoking inconvienent for you?

10 years ago 0 1140 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi again Timbo,
So nice to see all of your enthusiasm on the boards here. You definitely have a winner's attitude in this battle.

Hi ashforlydn,
Your words remind me of how powerful and painful this addiction is. And yet, I read how you can show great strength and courage when the situation calls for it. I just hope to remind you (since you have been free of this at points in the past) of some reasons quitting smoking for good is a situation that calls for your strength and courage. There is a whole, new wonderful world beyond smoking. Without a wall of smoke between you and the world, you can get closer to people and they can get closer to you. And you don't have to worry about smelling bad or causing another person to have an allergic reaction. Without smoke in your bloodstream and lungs all day, you will find that you are both calmer and, paradoxically, more energetic. Old activities, interests, and hobbies that you might have forgotten about will suddenly appeal to you again, since you have a lot more time and energy on your hands. You will have more confidence to try new things, since you know you have whipped one of the most wicked and powerful demons in your lifetime. You will find yourself walking around and mentally patting yourself on the back for choosing precious, wonderful, fragile, miraculous life.

OK, so back to the original poster's question: "What makes smoking inconvenient for you?"

You want to know what makes smoking inconvenient for me?

Life. That's what makes smoking inconvenient for me.

Simply...life.

Welcome Ashforldyn,
Congrats on the four days of not smoking! You need to reward yourself, you deserve it. It's a nasty habit isn't it? I wish you the best on your quit, and I do hope this is the last time you will have to do this.   Keep that positive attitude too, it will really help you out.
Stay strong and hang in there...

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

I have smoked for almost 40  years. I have not smoked for 4 days.(YAY! YAY YAY and I WILL be successful this time!)

I have had two children and stopped smoking during pregnancy both times until finished breast feeding both times. I have been through Harsh military environments where I could not smoke for several days and been fine.  I have always been able to travel the world and go 36 hours of traveling without dying from not smoking.  But I have allowed a small tobacco filled paper to control me for 40 years.

I too have made my own family and friends be inconvenienced because I needed 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette during an outing.  Both of my daughters smoke and I know that it is because I basically made that okay by showing them such a grand example their growing up lives.

I am HAPPY to take control back of my life. What's different this time?
#1  - The public environments have become completely intolerant and remind me continuously how disgusting and bad smoking is
#2 - The television has been reminding me several times a day how disgusting and bad smoking is
#3 - The mirror is now showing me how the disgusting and bad habit of smoking has damaged my skin and hair and teeth
#4 - I could possibly become a Grammy in the next couple of years from one of my adult children and I may not be able to play with that precious child
#5 - I am getting close to retirement and I want to enjoy it with my husband

NONE of these elements were in place any of the other times that I tried to quit. How sad is it that I needed these extremes to convince myself to be the strong person that I already am against something as small as a stupid tubular piece of paper filled with leaves?

Congratulations Fit Indeed on your quit! It doesn't matter how you do it, just as long as it gets done. I'm glad you found something that worked for you.  Maybe it can help someone else too. How long have you been quit?
Once again, way to go!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

I used to smoke for about 8 years and couldn't quit for a long time. So I decided to smoke at least less...and then less and gradually I stopped! First thing I did was that I postponed my morning cigarette about couple of hours. I had my first cigarette about 10am instead of first thing in the morning and then postponed to lunch time, then evening etc. I stopped smoking during the day and I got used to be smoke free the whole day. I have described my method here:
http://fit-indeed.co.uk/nicotine-quit-smoking-gradually/
Maybe it can help other smokers, good luck guys!

Hi! my name is veka and I'm 23 I've been smoking since I was 17. I tried quitting many times  but i always fail at staying quit. last time i was smoke free for 5 month but i started again. I hate the way smoking makes me feel it makes me depressed and tired. it makes me feel bad about myself because I don't like to have a smokers life style. i want to learn to rely on healthy drugs when i'm stressed like exercise. i don't like being the 23 year old person who can't even manage to enjoy a walk, run or spend time with friends without constantly thinking about smoking or holding a cigarette in her hands. my throat constantly gets dry and soar since i started again. I believe that by smoking I am taking away my chances of having a better life.a life that is full of energy, healthy hobbies. I hope i can do it this time.

This is how I feel also. I hate having to stop or start to panic because I'm starting to look for a place I can smoke. I just wanna feel relaxed and not have to worry about always looking for a place that I can go to for 5 minutes so I can have a quick smoke. I'm tired of thinking about it constantly when I'm out with family.

I have found it impossible to smoke around others without feeling guilty. I keep thinking about how I smoke with my husband in the car, or have to stop something everyone is enjoying (like a movie, or when at an outing) to find a place to smoke.  I mean how ridiculous is that, hold on give me five minutes and then I will come back to the fun.  I want to stop missing life, and letting something control everything I do.
