Hi Mink,

I think a lot of members can relate to what you are saying. I also think it is great that you have been able to identify an aspect of smoking that keeps you smoking. I don't know if you will be able to find an exact replacement of that effect but I do think we will be able to come up with possible alternatives. Many members say that drinking ice water is very helpful to manage cravings and it may give you a similar sensation. Deep breathes, especially in cool air may also help. I encourage you to look into breathing exercises and mindfulness as well. Mindfulness has a huge amount of documented benefits and I think if you were able to be mindful of other physical sensations this will help ease the transition. It will take time to transition but with support and lots of work you can get there.

It sounds like working on your motivation to quit may also be another important step forward. Do you have a list of reasons to quit yet?

Hello Mink I hope you are still hanging in there and if not try, try again. You are absolutely right smoking is an addiction and a pleasantry. It is hard to kick the Nicodemon out of your head but you can and it can be done and there are substitutes to ease the transition. The nicotine patch is what I used, a bit of gum chewing, lots of water, physical exercises and changing up my daily routines such as when I ate my meals, the time I went to bed, took a shower ate meals, and exercised... I vaguely remember drawing on that smoke and how it felt going into my lungs and the rush it provided but a distant memory that was just the dope rush. It stains your pearly whites destroy gum tissue and makes you smile unsightly to name a few. Of course we all die but hopefully not from that right. I'll stay tuned hope others can help you as well. Stickintoit.

This is day one to a step in my life that will prove most difficult. I have lots of support from my family but I am troubled by many things I feel they would not understand. I don't necessarily want to quit smoking, because there are many aspects of it the I honestly enjoy, but I feel the effects of it on my life. There is one thing it provides that I honestly find the most addictive. It is the burning sensation in the back of my throat. the feeling of pulling and feeling the smoke on the back of my throat is just so pleasurable. I can't seem to find a substitute for it. Are there any tips for that? Honestly I feel like if I can find a substitute for it, even if its not quite the same, quitting would be much easier. Thank you for your support and I appreciate any and all answers.
