Motivated by many things.... Deaths of people close to me. Not from smoking but these things tend to make you think about your own mortality. Tired of coughing Tired of paying high prices Tired of carrying around cigarettes and lighters Tired of the car smelling like smoke Tired of standing outside in the winter or rain to smoke Tired of dropping ashes around the house These are some of the reasons, now my wife still smokes and I have to contend with that but maybe if she sees me do this without freaking out, she too will try. Going into day 13 and so far, no real trauma or major anxiety issues. Being that I also started a new diet program I'm tackling more than I demon at the same time. If I m going for it..I'm going all the way !

Congrats on getting started!

Welcome to the group. What has motivated you to quit now?

Hi Rmitch,
Welcome! Did this countless times before huh? Not sure if you are familiar with the movie Galaxy Quest or not, but one of their favorite sayings is: "Never give up, never surrender"!  The same applies to quitting smoking.
You're half way through hell week, hang in there. I hope you have a smoke free 2017.

Give your addiction the uppercut at the end of this year before he do to you at next year.

Once again I am on a new path to quit smoking. I have done this countless times before and have always returned to the dark side. I wanted to start right before the new year so it would NOT be a New Years resolution. Being an older guy, and seeing a lot of friends pass this year I felt the need to stop the smoking, lose a bit of weight and start on a healthier lifestyle. I'm doing the patches again since they always helped me get thru the crunch. Been 4 days so far and no real problems other then the typical itch from the patches for the first 15 minutes. Hope you all have a wonderful 2017
