How true this is.
You have to give it 150% of your effort, and be strong from day one for it to work. You also have to be honest with yourself and make no excuses.  
Be prepared and know what to expect so you can  fight it head on, one day at a time.
It's 10% physical and 90% mental, but it can be done. Quitting is the easy part, staying quit is the real struggle.
It does and will get easier as time goes by. I smoked for 37+ years, pack a day and I've been on my quit journey for over 3 years now. Life is MUCH better without that nasty habit!

What worked for me was to sit down and write up my entire Quit Plan...what I was going to do when those powerful crave waves hit.
 
I then stocked up a complete Quit Kit: coloring boks, crayons, carrot/celery sticks, lollipops, other hard candies, chewing gums....well, you get the idea.  
 
Even tossed in a Patch Program as I soon discovered CT was not going to work for me.  I erased CT in my Plan and wrote Patch.
 
On April 14, 2006 I slapped one on and started my Quit.  
 
Never looked back and continue to be smoke free today after 40 years at 2 packs a day.
 
Deep breaths will always serve you well!!!
 
There are, in the end, 2 parts to a Quit....Part 1) Quit....it was that Part 2) STAY Quit I always found difficult.
 
An Elder in another Quit Site sat me down and explained that the ONLY weld that will ever hold Part 1 to Part is the Power of NOPE.
 
Every smoker who ever wanted a REAL Quit (I was no exception) must, at some point, bring themselves to totally embrace this Fact of Quitting. 
 
Nothing more will ever be required of you, and Nothing less will ever work.
