Congrats Stardust!

It sounds like you are doing fantastic. I love how you are being proactive in controlling side effects like anxiety. It is been quite a few days since you posted - how are you feeling today?

Hi everyone,

Today is day 8 of being smoke free. I decided to quit cold turkey after experiencing difficulty breathing and having asthma/allergy type symptoms. I've never been diagnosed with asthma or any allergies but for the last 4 years starting around the end of April to July when the weather starts to warm up, I start to experience these weird symptoms. I sneeze a lot and have difficulty getting enough air into my lungs. It feels like I'm breathing through a filter or sponge. It's worse when I first wake up and when I lay down to sleep. I can't stop coughing and I have a hard time getting enough air in my lungs. I also wake up at times wheezing. When this first started happening to me 4 years ago I was terrified and thought I was getting COPD. I went to my family doctor and was sent for a breathing test at the hospital which came back normal. I was given a puffer with a steroid in it which made me feel sick so I didn't use it. I also quit smoking at that time (4 years ago) for a month. Once I started to feel better and the symptoms went away, I started smoking again.

This year once again starting around the end of April I started getting the symptoms again but this year the symptoms are worse then the last few years.  I went to the walk-in clinic where I live and got a puffer (without a steroid) and a nasal spray.  Before I stopped smoking I had to use the puffer and nasal spray once every day. Now after quitting smoking 8 days ago, I use only the puffer once every second day. The symptoms are still there but they are not as frequent or severe as they were. I do feel better not smoking. I have more energy and feel so much more relaxed. I used to get bad anxiety and feel so worked up all the time but not anymore. I get out almost every day and go for long walks which really have helped me. I get moderate cravings a few times a day but they pass after about 15 minutes. I can't promise anyone that I will be smoke free forever but I can promise that I will try my best to sustain from smoking. It's constantly on my mind and hoping as more time passes, the less i will think about it. Good luck to everyone here.
