You are an inspiration Whisper....I'm still struggling and wanting to find a loophole that will allow me to smoke...I know there isn't one, BUT I keep looking...I try to look at the good side, I'm not coughing, I can breathe again, I can read better without glasses, my gums are better...and yet I keep looking for ways I can beat the system...and I know I cannot. You're refreshing candor is inspiring...thank you!

Ha! Whisper, I've been behind on all the posts here, so I just read your thread starter here now. Love what you wrote. I had a similar experience with physical detox (which you went through in those first few days). I felt goofy and kind of high, instead of the cranky that I had feared. And yes, I had all the mental chatter about wanting a smoke, just one cigarette, just a little puff, etc. But, like you, I found it kind of silly after fighting off the urges all day. I think the term might be "slap-happy." Regardless, it is a good feeling to get that monkey off your back, isn't it?

     Huge congrats for making it through Hell Week and beyond!    It's great to see your awesome attitude shining through!  It's what many of us have referred to as "craving your quit!"  That Positive Mental Attitude will allow you to quickly free yourself of the bonds of addiction!  Bravo!
 
     I highly recommend continuing on with the daily rewards, just as long as they are all not chocolate cake!    I still reward myself daily, too, just because I still deserve it!  I do hope that you will continue to post often to keep us up on your progress and help support all of your new quit buddies here!  I know just how much it means to everyone to read positive, uplifting posts!

Hello again and thank you for all your lovely replies. At 10.00 pm tonight I will have NOT SMOKED for 9 whole days, how cool is that?  As you may gather, I am no less excited today. It feels great and what is even better, I haven't thought about smoking once today, no cravings, just lots of nothingness  Mind you ...it's early days...so far so good....and I try to remain aware that just one weak moment and I could be back in the nicotine prison. The thought of that is unbearable, so I will remain ever vigilant, ever strong and always on the lookout for that evil Nic, he is not going to stand a chance against me now.

Amanda- So great to see that you are still going strong and that you are leading the way so well. I'll keep following in your footsteps, knowing that you are up ahead and having you in my sights I will not wander far from the footpath, keep up the good work. *waves*
Lolly- Thank you for your lovely kind words of encouragement. As you say, for me it's now down to the emotional and psychological parts of the quit to contend with, these have been my biggest downfall in the past. This time I'm going to ride the waves and wave away the craves and remember that there is NEVER just one more.
Jose- If my smiles get any bigger I will be grinning like the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland. I still feel so excited and elated about not having to poison myself any longer. Oh yes...the rewards, There are so many, and it's got to the point where I am having a new reward everyday. I have so much more energy now and I'm actually having spare time on my hands now too, which mean longer walks across the fields for me and my dog, which in turn keeps her happy, healthier and fitter too, so added bonus there.   I feel fitter and fresher, I no longer have that awful hacking cough, the yellow fingers have gone, my tongue is now pink again, my teeth actually look whiter and my breath is now fresher, my house and car smell much cleaner, I can breathe much better, I can now take huge deep breaths and fill my lungs up with the lovely clean fresh air without ending up in a coughing fit, I can walk further without feeling tired or needing to stop for a smoke, I feel like I am finally breaking free from my addiction, I no longer have to stand outside of a shop in the pouring rain just to get my fix, I have money in my purse again, I feel all light and bouncy (which is amazing because I've eaten everything in sight lol ), My toes tingle as oxygen rich blood returns to my feet and the circulation around them feels like it is finally returning to normal, my sense of smell has returned and my sense of taste has too, I have now discovered that I don't like Marmite anymore. I can now go to bed at night thinking "Today, I did nothing unhealthy" for the first time in my adult life.
So on Day 9 I'm still getting great physical rewards for having quit, these rewards have made it so worthwhile for me. I can feel bits of me that went numb years ago coming back to life. I have colour in my cheeks, I feel and look younger - And that's only after 9 days! 9 Days V's 30 years ...
The body is truly a remarkable thing, give it a chance and it'll reward you endlessly for having stopped poisoning it!
Looking at my quit meter it says I have now saved 22 hours and 22 minutes of my life.... Flippin heck, that's nearly a day! A whole day of my life saved already.
Rita- Bless you sweetheart. You are doing fantastic, you really are. 5 days is amazing, now step out of that shadow and grab my hand, together and with the help of this wonderful website and fellow quitters on this forum, we will get through this. Come on... hold on tight and I'll pull you up and over the hill. 
 
Right... I'm off to my Daughter's house. I've made her a nice big chocolate cake, she's full of cold and I reckon there's not much a piece of chocolate cake and a cup of coffee can't cure. Means I get to have some too. (Note to self...must stop this eating at some point.)

That's a whole week!  Congratulations!  As you are doing this 'cold turkey' the worst part is over as far as the nicotine withdrawal is concerned.  Unfortunately you now have the emotional and psychological parts of the quit to contend with.
 
Your post made me excited for you, sand really brightened my day.......lovely.....thank you.!
 
Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

Hey Whisper! Congrats on getting through Hell week that is so awesome!! I felt exactly the same when I went through the first couple of days people would ask me things and I would be so zoned out but after hell week it got so much easier for me . Yesterday and today I woke up and actually didn't think about a smoke and I felt so much better.  keep up the great work whisper your doing awesome!

Hello everyone… Guess who sailed through day 6 and has now started on day 7? Yep me 

 

 

I'm practically jumping around like a looney and wanting to shout it from the rooftops that today is the last day of hell week 1, ha ha ha the nico demon’s not going to catch me now J I'm so elated and excited by it. Not least because I already feel so much better, I can breathe big lovely deep breaths. Yesterday I was in danger of running   Me running? It’s mad. But I just have all this energy I can’t seem to use up. I'm excited. This will be so far the single best thing I have ever done for myself in my entire life. And I’m only on day 7 which leaves hundreds of days for it to get better and better and better.

 

 

Day one and two are mad though aren't they? Very strange. I was floating about like some kind of drugged up thing. Instead of brains my head may as well have been full of mashed potato. People would ask me quite simple things like 'would you like a cup of tea'........but my mash brains couldn’t compute. They just thought eh? What is it that you're trying to say to me. And all the while this voice in my ear constantly.....gis a smoke....have a smoke...a smoke would be nice.....why don’t you light up......coffee......coffee and a smoke....give me a smoke...I want a smoke. Like I said, day one and two are mad. By the end of day two I was exhausted. Absolutely worn out with it....but you know.....in a weird way I quite enjoyed it all. Despite the difficulties of day one and two...there was also something quite hilarious about it all. Since then it’s all been amazingly manageable apart from the constant eating. Crisps, biscuits, chocolate, more crisps, more biscuits, more chocolate… You get the picture. (Sorry but sliced fruit, celery and carrot sticks just isn’t the same   ) Oh well. I'll address that problem later.

 

 

Suppose I should mention that I'm cold turkeying it. I bought myself a book called how to stop smoking and stay stopped for good by Gillian Riley and it really is an excellent book. For me anyway. Read it cover to cover in one night and hey presto. I stopped. Tried the Alan Carr about a year ago. Nothing. Just didn’t do it for me.

 

 

Ooops so sorry, I've rambled on and on. It’s the excitement. I want to be able to tell everyone that I’ve stopped smoking and you lot on here are the important people. This forum has been a massive support for me....both whilst trying to psyche up to stop and whilst stopping. I just think it’s the loveliest thing that people who've been stopped a long time keep coming back here just to offer a leg up to us beginners. I hope I’ll do the same.
