Hello Don,
I can understand your decision to move on but I wanted to let you know that your writing and perspective is greatly appreciated by me as a person who has experienced addiction first hand and the 12 step program. Having a higher power to lean on in my hardest of times and darkest of hours has helped me to understand that I am not always able to see things clearly when looking thought the eyes of my addictions or when going to life's hardships. This higher power that you speak of has saved me on many many occasions for without it I am sure I would not be here to write this today. So for me, I prefer to say Live and Let Live instead of to each his own for I am one of those that needs that extra bit of help and something to lean on when the people in the physical world are no where to be found. They are just mere humans being after all.

I will miss your support and writing if you choose to stay gone but I do understand if you must move on. So not to worry I have my higher power and spirituality to guide me and to lean so I know I will not be walking this journey alone.

Hi Working On It,

You're good and no posts were deleted. It's just one of those things.

I am pleased that my original post spoke powerfully to you, particularly as you were the thread-starter. Hopefully, others will have benefited from it too. If I think I can help in any way I will.

As for your response to Ashley, I agree with both you and Lolly wholeheartedly - each to their own and whatever it takes to quit - that's all that matters!

Keep On Keeping On!

Hi Penitent,

I'm not sure what went sideways on this thread (and I may have missed some posts that were later deleted). Regardless, I just wanted to say that your first post here spoke to me quite powerfully. I didn't comment initially, and that was simply because I had nothing to add.

In response to Ashley, I would just say that that each person has to do whatever it takes. We each have our own philosophies and perspectives on life, and we have to apply those in ways that help us to quit and stay quit. I won't say any more at this point 'cause I don't want to stir this pot too much.

Hi All,

Chat forums often have a lot of misunderstanding due to the nature of typed communication. I'm thinking that was the case here. We've all be here a long time and I hope this misunderstanding doesn't impact our ongoing support for eachother. Anyways, as you all said - moving on.

Dear Pen,

It is totally outrageous!!!  You should be offended!  I have read and re-read the post and the answers three times, and I cannot see what the problem is!

As for ME, I just respond from the heart and try to keep people positive...if the pronouns 'I' or ' me' are in my post too bad!

As you say....  moving on.....

For the record.

I’m not sure that I could be more offended. Me, a member of the “ME” Club? What an outrageous accusation! What a laugh!

Over the last 10 years, I have always taken great care in trying to exclude the pronoun “I” from the thousands of posts that I have shared here; posts that are rarely about ME, posts that are most often designed to help others, advise others, inform others, support others, congratulate others, encourage others, cheer others, welcome others, console others, reassure others.

But when I am asked for a personal opinion or my personal experience on a subject, it is impossible to follow that rule. Yes, that post was about ME, appropriately, and I am proud of its content. It is about my addiction, my experience, my opinion, my addiction and my recovery. If that makes me a member of the “ME” club, I stand guilty as charged. I know many will think otherwise.

Now, moving on…………..

Hi Breather,

I think taking credit for your quit is important. Quitting smoking is no easy task and recognizing the internal strength it took to beat this nasty addiction is not only fair but also therapeutic. However one chooses to be present to their quit success is alright with me. How do you see it?

I prefer not to be a member of the me club so I won't be back here. A slice of humble pie with that arrogance perhaps ?

Hi Working,

A good  post with a good article to copy.  I hope lots of people read it!

Penitent expressed my feelings exactly and far more eloquently than I can.  I used to upset (for some reason) lots of people when I declared "This is MY quit!"

I really do not care what gives someone the power to change their lives as long as they do it.  Needing help is not a weakness, rather a strength, as it highlights the recognition of one's needs.
