*eyes the weetabix* Dang. Now you tell me. ;p Great post and yep, I have no clue how to be an adult who doesn't smoke, but I'm learning. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 69 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,095 Amount Saved: 320.85 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 15 Mins: 4 Seconds: 43

Todash: Your post touched me -- so beautifully written. You are much more self-aware than you may realize. I agree with you that smoking was always a great way to hide from emotions, conflict, the world in general. Quitting means having to face all that and having to be reborn. It has been a stressful experience, but not without joy, either. I'm really beginning to like the new nonsmoking me. I'm actually OFF antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication for the first time in years and maybe I'm crazy, but I feel pretty darn good about myself and I feel STRONG! That's a new one for me. It will take some getting used to, but I like it! Ride the waves, Todash, even the ones when you can't see through the cloudy water to see what's beneath it. You may be very pleasantly surprised once you dive in! And I think you'll love the person who emerges. As for the cough, I was hacking and gagging before my quit -- on the verge of emphysema. Since about two weeks into my quit, I NEVER cough. I'm walking every day and while I sometimes get a little short of breath on the uphill parts, I'm breathing very, very well and still don't cough. That's a GOOD thing, don't you think? Keep up your wonderful quit -- and keep the faith! I think learning to be an adult who doesn't smoke is part of quitting. I like to think of it as when you quit - your umbrella is taken away, but that doesn't mean it stops raining. Eventually we learn how to get in out of the rain. I think your insight and courage are what is going to make this a solid quit for you. It is very much a transformation. Thanks for allowing us a glimpse as you begin to step through. Nicely written. good handle. Keep on. Todash: You are awesome! I loved reading each post to what you wrote and what you wrote! I am 3 days quit AGAIN. Had quit for 6 yrs then started again 2 & 1/2 yrs ago and have tried umpteenth times since then to quit but here I am- a quitter again! Good for me. Well my 8 yr old twins really inspired me with a letter (song they said) they wrote about my smoking, quiting, smoking, quiting and how it broke their hearts to pieces of glass. OUCH! I look forward to more of your writing. Are you from England? My mum was born and raised in London. I am asking because of the money sign, isn't that pounds? Well take care, continue to share and god bless you and everyone out there on this clear air journey. Todash: I know how expensive, my mum's cousins came down about two months ago and I couldn't believe they were smoking because when I graduated from high school (1983-giving age away)- I think they were like our $5 a pack then. Even the $5 a pack is crazy. Blown up in smoke. My mum grew up in London and her sister and my cousin live in Surrey and there are relatives also in Reading. Well keep up the good work and NOPE- not one puff even. It feels good today to finally not be hacking up so much. Also feels good to look at how many cigs (fags) I haven't had. Take Care Have an awesome weekend! Todash,
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another. ~Anatole France
Very honest & well written post. This can be a scary experience but try to take it in stride. You've been missing out on these emotions for years and now is your chance to finally experience what everyone takes for granted: happiness that is not induced by nicotine. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep taking advantage of this opportunity to learn about yourself, your emotions and the world around you.
