Quitting after 43 years

10 years ago 0 2606 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello Cary,

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Good luck & check back soon!

Hi cary,

It's never too late. Even if damage has been done, you will feel better after you quit smoking. Also, your body is better able to heal itself when you are not smoking.

Hi gail and welcome to the boards.

Since you've done this before, you probably know that day 3 is one of the toughest. After that, things should calm down a bit.

You might want to check out "My Program" and the "Quit Tools" on the buttons at the top of this page, if you haven't already done so. The exercises and tools can be helpful for committing to and maintainin your quit.

Looking forward to seeing you around.

Welcome to a new beginning. We're all with you. I smoked forever too and realize we are all addicts looking for a helping hand. I offer mine whenever you need it. You can do this. Stock up on water and change your routines to help break the triggers. Read and follow the program. It helps provide alternatives and helps you to measure milestones along the way. You're off to a great new beginning. Keep the quit, Dave

Hi there and welcome. I smoked 20 a day for fifty years and ninety days ago stopped with the help of Champix! It's been a tough ride so far but getting easier by the day. I've had many ups and downs but have got this far by taking it just one day at a time. To contemplate your whole future is way to much to deal with. Just dealing with "today " is more manageable. It's amazing watching the days turn to weeks and then months. Just keep telling yourself " I won't smoke today" and you can get there. Keep coming back to learn tips from others, but most of all the support and encouragement that I find invaluable. Note one puff ever! Viv
