Hi Shannon,

What a sensible and brave decision as everyone is saying!  I hope your family understand, but if they don't right now, they will when they see you at Christmas...a non-smoker with great self-esteem and a huge confidence in your quit.

" By the way, one of the things that I have learned/ am learning on this quit journey is that I don't need to get involved in stuff that's going to stress      me out. I used to tolerate more tiredness, anxiety, etc. and then go refuel myself with nicotine. I'm starting to say, more and more, that I just don't need that grief in the first place. "      -  Working On It.

I've noticed Shannon that in most of your threads there is a massive amount of sensible advice.  It could be because you have posted questions and comments so honestly and opened yourself up to us.   I hope lots of people read these posts as the advice could be invaluable.

Enjoy catching up on all those little jobs, but do remain vigilant!

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

Love Lolly.

Hey there, hopeful2. I second (or third or fourth) the opinion that staying put is the best deal for you right now. Being around smoky air can be a pretty strong trigger. I was triggered by a casino trip after i quit. I think I had been quit for about a month, too. I suspect that I inhaled enough secondhand smoke to trigger a real, physical craving. I guess that the fact that you are on gum would stop the physical craving. But still, seeing everyone waving those flaming sticks around after a long, exhausting trip doesn't sound like very much fun.

By the way, one of the things that I have learned/ am learning on this quit journey is that I don't need to get involved in stuff that's going to stress me out. I used to tolerate more tiredness, anxiety, etc. and then go refuel myself with nicotine. I'm starting to say, more and more, that I just don't need that grief in the first place.

Hey Shannon!!!

I agree that you made a wise decision and am proud of you for doing so!  Quitting is hard enough without having to immerse yourself in the very substance you are trying to avoid!     You have taken the steps necessary to protect your quit and that is true commitment!  Way to go!

Reward yourself well for sticking to your plan to attain the smoke-free life you desire!  You really do deserve it!  I know what I'd do to reward myself if I lived in Florida...  which way to the beach???

        Have a great holiday break!

You guys are abolutely right, this is what I had to do right now for myself.  Hopefully by Christmas, I will be stronger and more confident.  I am going to reward myself by taking it easy on myself for a couple of days.  Maybe get some stuff done around the house, do some shopping, take dogs to the dog park...just pitter patter around

Hi Hopeful,

Good for you for making this difficult yet very important choice. Protecting your quit is of utmost importance. Although you and your family are disappointed in the long run this was the right choice.  What is something special you can do for yourself to celebrate your hard work?

Hello Hopeful2  I think you made the right decision for the time being. Four days smoke free is a very fragile time and you do not need to be bombarded by smoke right now. It's smart to give yourself time to adjust to your new way of life. I remember early in my quit that there was a Christmas party that I agonised about going to for a week and got really stressed about. I believe that I was 5 weeks smober at the time. As it turned out it was the most fun that I had in a long time. I spent quite a bit of time outside with the smokers ( up wind of course ) and everything worked out perfectly. Of course I was guarding my quit with being careful not to drink much. You're testing the waters right now to find out in your own mind what you acheive. We have to learn how to live a whole new way of life to be successful at this quitting game. Every milestone that we pass we get that much stronger. Thanksgiving , Christmas , Birthdays , etc. We're proving to ourselves that we can do it and get stronger and feel the need to smoke diminish as time goes on. Excellent for you for not smoking. Keep plenty of ice water handy to drink for the craves. We're hopeful for U 2 breather

Hi guys -

I decided to cancel my trip home (Chicago) as to not risk my quit.  I am smoke-free now for 4 days and I did not feel strong enough...so I am staying put (Florida).  While I am going to miss my family and it broke my heart to break the news to grandma, I feel this is something that I had to do.  Not only would it be difficult to endure the stress of traveling, my family smokes like a bunch of little chimneys and I do not feel strong enough. So, just gonna lie low this holiday and gear up for Christmas.

Wishing you all a Blessed Thanksgiving Holiday.

Shannon
