Quit day set for 11/19/2012 Looking for support

I too am very encouraged at hearing that someday I won't even think of smoking.  I have the experience of quitting drinking over 3 years ago which parallels this, as an addiction is an adddiction, regardless of the substance.  I know I hardly ever think of drinking anymore.  I can go to social events where other people drink and I have my mineral water and the thought of having a drink doesn't even enter my mind.  The only times I've had the odd passing thought is when I see someone have a cold beer on a hot summer day. . . but that's all it is, is a passing thought.

Hi Goofy,

I am so encouraged by your post - thank you! This is what I want to hear from ex-smokers; that they have missed their quit anniversary and that they don't give even a fleeting thought to cigarettes any longer. That is the status I want to reach! I want to "forget" that I have ever smoked. I don't want it to be part of my life or my thinking process. I don't want to do battle every day - one can lose a few along the way...

I can't wait till I'm free for good, forever!

Congratulations to all the new quitters. I actually missed my 5th anniversary as I don't even think about smoking anymore. I check in about twice a year now to see if there are any of the people around who were so influential in my quit. I do miss the friends, but as time goes on, other things than smoking fills my thoughts. I love the people here, and for the new quitters......stay close. I smoked two packs a day for 35 years.........Believe me, this system works! I did exactly as I was told by the others.......If I wanted to smoke, I would post and wait for five responses. By the time I got them, I didn't want a  cigarette.                     Hang tough..It gets much, much easier.   Oh yeah...Before you know it, you'll be in the Hall of Fame and get that great t-shirt!!

Happy Thanksgiving

Good luck to the November 19th quitters.  Lots of great info at SSC, and the support is wonderful.  One day, one hour, one crave at a time.

All the best,

Hi there Thsoldlady, Toby & Jarch,

How are you doing?  Whether it's your first day or not, stay close to us here and we will support you.  It may seem hard to believe that people you have never met will give you a boost, but probably all the SSC members would agree that this is an amazing place to get and give support.

Thinking of you all today...Whatever it takes - just don't smoke!

Hi Jarch,

Welcome to the SSC community.  Know that you are not alone in your quit!  You've joined a wonderful community of people who have been in your situation - at the beginning stages of quitting smoking - and can offer you much help and support whenever you need it.  Read through the forums and work through the quit program on this site.
With your determination and the help from members on the SSC, you can succeed in your quit!!

I will also be starting on the 19th. Like you, I also don't have all that much support. I have done a lot of reading and tried to be as educated as possible with regards to nicotine addition and what to expect with quitting. I have a few previous failed attempts, some better than others, but I am determined to make this one stick.
