Welcome Aally and George,

Always great to see new members.
Just remember it is one day at a time.  It does get easier.
I was out and about yesterday and met a couple of old friends I hadnt seen for a long time, both standing in the street smoking.  Not sure If they thought my comment was rude but this is what came out of my mouth "yuk, you both have to give that dirty habit up" proudly followed by "I am 100 smoke free days today" both speachless for a minute, I must have found new found confidence along the way as this is usually not my style, but I quite like the feeling of strength, self pride.  It must come from smelling great, skin/hair and nails looking great (enjoy spending dollars on me instead of smokes)  No ball and chain (the addiction) dragging me down.

Hoping you will experience this feeling soon and the initial withdrawl symptoms will be long forgotten.

Hey George!!!

Welcome to the SSC and congrats for taking the plunge!!!  I'm betting that you will have success on this journey since you quit on an awesome day to quit... my birthday... which is also the first full day of Fall!

Stick close, read and learn from all of the information provided in the Program and here on the Forums!  Knowledge is power and it really helps to learn as much about this addiction and your enemy... the nico-demon!  If you have questions, just ask or use the search button on the main Forum page.  It works pretty well in finding topics that interest you!

Like Dori said, we're all rooting for you!  You definitely have a lot of support here if and when you need it!  You can do this!!

Congrats on your quit decision and welcome to the boards, George. I hope that Day 1 went as well as it could for you. By the end of day 3, you should be physically detoxed, and it will get easier from there. You may want to hang close, and read and post a lot here in the first few days and weeks. There are many encouraging people and great stories here. Plus, reading here gives you something to do besides thinking about those craves.

dori had a lot of great advice, too. I hope you use her tips to help you along.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome George,

Congrats on setting a quit date! It sounds like you have a lot to motivate you to stay quit.

Be sure to check out the program and prepare yourself with as much information as you can. The more you know the better equipped you will be to handle anything this quit throws at you.  Also, know that we will be supporting you every step of the way. Post and read often.

Good luck!

Hi George,

Congrats for making the decision and setting a date.  I don't know if you perused the program yet, but if you haven't, you'll want to.  It gives you a lot of tips and helps you make a plan for your quit.  I found it really helpful.  The other big factor is support, both at home and elsewhere.  My husband never smoked so even though he tries to be supportive he just doesn't get what's it like ridding yourself of an addiction.  Everbody on this website absolutely gets it and you'll get lots of support. The other thing I found helpful about this site is being able to write out my thoughts and moods as I go through the quit journey.  There's something really cathartic about doing this.

Keep to your plan and don't forget to reward yourself at various milestines.  We're all rooting for you!

Hello Everyone

I'm George, I'm 35 years old and tomorrow is the day.  After several failed attempts I have decided to put an end to this addiction that just is making me feel run down.  I'm tired of smelling bad, feeling bad, coughing, and being broke always because of my addiction.  Most importantly I want to improve my health, and life.  My father was 64 when he passed i'm three years past the half way mark to the age.  I know my dad would want me to live a clean and healthy life.  He wouldn't want the same fate as e goes.him.  So wish me luck and her

Welcome to the group Aally! Glad that you found us.

Good for you for already doing some research on quitting. The more you know about quitting the better equipped you will be to fight this. Read through the entire program, as it will walk you through all the important aspects of quitting you will need to be aware of.

Also, plan on posting in the support group often. Many members attribute their quit success to the support they have received here. Posting is also a great distraction and replacement activity from smoking.

Huge congratulations on being smoke free for one month! You are through the toughest month in regards to withdrawal! YAY! Now the behavioural, emotional and mental aspects could be a problem. Please post about whatever you are experiencing as often as you can.

Looking forward to reading more from you.

Hey Aally!!!

Welcome to the SSC and huge congrats for conquering the one month milestone!!!  That is a major accomplishment on this journey and I hope that you rewarded yourself well for your achievement!  I hope that you found the information you were looking for on withdrawals, but if not, I am sure that you will be able to find it here!

I would recommend going through all of the milestones in the Program and check out all of the other Tools on the site!  You can also post your questions in one of the Forum topics, or utilize the Forum search function.  There is a wealth of information contained here on the Forums and knowledge and education regarding nicotine addiction if a powerful tool on this journey!   The other big benefit of the site and the Forums is meeting and receiving the support of all of your new quit buddies here!

Let us know how we can help, ok?

Wow! Congratulations on what you have accomplished on your own so far, Aally. This is a great place to read discuss various aspects of quitting. There are also some cool threads (stats parades, the "what if" thread, etc.) that help to keep a positive focus.

Glad that you are here. The more the merrier.
