clonazepam withdrawal

Hi Ecinele, I'm glad to hear you're weaning off. It sounds like you're doing it correctly. .25 is such a small dose that you should be fine. However, expect withdrawal symptoms. As for me, I couldn't get off of it. The withdrawal was so bad that eventually I gave up. Night after night after night for almost 2 months I couldn't sleep so I had to start taking it again. On thursday I'm going to be evaluated at an anxiety disorders clinic. Sadly, this is NOT a success story. Be glad you've been making it through without the drug. You'll soon be free of it and I'm a slave to it.

Hi I'm so glad to see your posting and see that I am not alone. I've been on Clonazepan for about 8 years at a dosage of about .25mg every night. About two weeks ago I decided to get off of it and for about a week I felt "great". One morning; however, I woke up with a terrible headache. Right now, I take one tablet one night and skip a night. Is this the way you are supposed to wean off of this medication? I appreciate anyone who has experience with this writing back. Thanks Ecinele

Dear Girl, I tried to post you but it did not go through, I am trying again. You sound like you are weaning correctly, you are right the Doc who said "just stop taking it" perhaps should not have said that all medicine, not just Klonopin have to weaned slowly. I on average take a 0.5 every night, I increased from 0.25, I am hoping if and when I resume my Paxil I can cut back down and taper again, I was told I could take more Klonopin I am glad I did not, you were not on a extreme high dose, you should be just getting over the rough part and now it will start subsiding, the first few weeks are the hardest, I am withdrawing from Zoloft and I feel very funky! I wonder if the DOc would let you take unisom {over the counter} till you withdraw, for example take unisom one night the 1/2 of Klonopin the next, you will get through this its leaving your body and soon will be out, I dread the day I must do this but I must someday. Please let me know how it is going. Sending good luck angels and prayers, Debbie.

I just re-read your post Debbie and saw that you take it as needed. Sorry about that. How often are you taking it and how much?

Thanks Debbie. I'm so glad someone else out there knows what I'm going through. I'm glad the Paxil is working for you. How long did it take you to get off Klonopin? I've been on it for almost 10 years. I have been weaning and it's been tough. I was taking 1 mg at bedtime (so (2) 0.5 pills), then I went down to 1 1/2 pills a couple of months later. Didn't seem to have a problem there. Then when I cut it down to just one pill, 0.5 mg, a few weeks ago, that's when things started spiraling. Sometimes in middle of the night I have taken a half of a klonopin wafer which never seemed to help. So my dosage has been kind of all over the place. NOW, for the past 3 days, I'm on ONE HALF of a pill which equals 0.25 of clonazepam. I've been consistent and have taken it at the same time. Would you believe my Psychiatrist told me to stop taking it without weaning off?! I went to my Primary Physician and she said absolutely not. That you should wean. So now I'm taking the half and I'll sleep one night and not the next. My leg & stomach pain is horrible. I tried taking Lexapro to ease the anxiety, but that just exacerbated the insomnia. I think all these drugs are awful. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well. Thanks.

Dear Girl on Fire, When I read your post it really hit home. I have been taking Clonazpam for over 2 years, I started with 0.25 before bedtime then went to 0.5. Every now and then I will take 0.25 during the day extra if my anxiety is high, this concerns me, I agree it loses its potency after awhile that is why I am trying to keep my doses low. I am in the process of trying to get Paxil, because when I took that I did not need the Klonopin as much at all, the Paxil relaxed and sedated me. How many miligrams were you taking? how many now? are you weaning or cold-turkey, I do not think you need detox I think if you wean slowly it will eventually work its way out of your system, one day I plan to taper, I hear its rough, I went off a year ago, that was very rough, can you 1/2 and 1/4 the pills? Please write me back soon and let me know what your dosage is and how you are doing. I will send prayers your way, you will get through this. Debbie.

Has anyone else been on Klonopin or the generic, Clonazepam, for years and then tried to get off of it? I've been having horrible insomnia for weeks, a feeling of disorientation & emotional stress, leg & arm pain, stomach problems, fever, etc. I lost my job because of this **** because I can't sleep and I'm like a crazy person. I may even need detox. I would highly recommend NEVER STARTING ON KLONOPIN if a Doctor prescribes it to you. After awhile, it loses it's effect (I was having panic attacks on it) and getting off of it has been one of the worst experiences of my life. I can't wait to be drug-free to see how I feel. Anyone else sharing in this atrocity?
