Way to go Dave!

I also found that when using Chantix that cigarettes tasted like gack!!!  Keep up with the reward system, both small and large!  it really helps!!!

Welcome David! You found a great place to quit. Saving money from quitting is a great motivator and one of the reasons we love our quit meters! I have saved a ton of money by quitting smoking, lol, mostly because cigarettes cost a fortune in Canada, one of my rewards was a hot tub a couple of years ago, this year its a trip to Hawii. Hang out here, read all you can, there is an awful lot of great information here to help you quit and lots of us have been in your shoes so we know whats happening to you. Whatever method you use, there is someone whose done it. Congrats on quitting.
Take it one day at a time, tomorrow is always a better day, and the days go by so fast, all of sudden you're smoke free a year!

Congrats David!
My wife Susan and I  both quit using Chantix. It works amazingly well, you still get cravings but they don't last for more than a minute or two. After 90 days you will never have another craving, you will no longer be a quitter but instead a Non-Smoker!

Good Luck!

Also, as far as rewards go, I am close to my goal for my first one...as soon as I've saved enough by not smoking I am getting a new PC wheel for my online NASCAR racing habit...lol...I figure that's one habit I can feed without worry of health problems...

breather, thanx for the insight...I know you understand exactly what I had to go thru for at least the first couple days...it got easier after that though...

Last night was a big stepping stone....my girlfriend decided it was time for us to "take a break"...it hit me pretty hard, I must admit I did grab her lit cigarette and managed 2 drags before nearly choking to death, then had to spend a couple hours trying to get the nasty taste out of my mouth...

It was hard to believe the difference 9 days makes...what i found pleasure in just over a week ago, seemed almost like a nightmare last night...no way do I wanna go thru that again...makes me wonder what I ever found pleasurable about it in the first place, and for 20 years....

Hi Dave,
I am just stopping back in to give a little payback to the place that helped me so much when I quit.  Believe me it just keeps getting better and in less than a year you will know that for yourself.  just keep hanging in there.  Take it one day at a time, and Breathe.  And when you feel like you can not stand it one second more. Come here and yell for help!.  It works.

Hello David  Congrats on 8 days not smoking , realise that this is huge. Excellent for you. I used to spend endless hours on the computer smoking and wondered when I was contemplating quitting how I would ever be able to survive all day not smoking ? Take it a day at a time and trust in yourself. At some point you'll find that it's not only possible but you'll wonder why you ever needed it in the first place. I still spend endless hours on the computer but don't need to light up or even think about it. Tell yourself " I don't need to smoke today". Also if you haven't started thinking about rewards you should because we all need something to look forward to instead of that next puff. Way to go. breather Don

Hi Dave,

Welcome to SSC!  Congrats on taking the steps to quit smoking.  You will find this site incredibly helpful along the way.  You can rely on members for advice, tips and support if you find you are ever stuck or feel an overwhelming urge to smoke.  Take the time to look through the information provided on this site.
Post often to let us know how you are doing and begin the day by telling yourself:  N.O.P.E:
Not One Puff Ever.

What did you find most challenging in the past?  What were your worst triggers?

I'd have to say the biggest challenges in the past were stress-related issues...when I attempted to quit I already had many stress-causing factors, which made it nearly impossible to quit using NRT.

I'd say the triggers I've found (now that I'm not smoking and more observant of the times that I have the urge) are stressful situations, that small moment of accomplishment after finishing a task, and when I am bored or deep in thought or concentration, which is 90% of my day...I work from a home office as a freelance web/graphics designer.

Hey Dave!

Welcome and congrats to you!!!  I also quit using Chantix and after numerous attempts!  I think it was that Topix blog thread that also led me here over 3.5 years ago!  Thanks to that NRT and the SSC, I attained freedom from that terrible addiction!  You definitely can do it too!!!  Stick close, read and learn and keep that Positive Mental Attitude!
