Well, it's been since Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. since I quit.  I think the first 24 hours was the worst.  I am using a Habitrol Nicotine replacement patch, 21 mg.

I was really worried how things would go the next morning (Sun) without that smoke I so used to have within 5 minutes of waking up....that was a big one for me.  I had a plan the night before.  I would wake up, and instead of sitting on the couch, I would just gather laundry.

I have been chewing on cocktail straws and munching on strawberry flavoured Twizzlers.  I don't have any problems wanting to smoke while driving, as I slowly removed that habit last year.

When I really want a smoke, I have been coping by either chewing the end of my straw, or "inhaling" it.  I used this idea last time I quit during the holidays (2001), while it was still ok to smoke in the bars.  My cocktail straw and I were everywhere.  Once in a while, I'd change colours for fun.  It seems to help a lot again this year, except I quit drinking 5 yrs ago.

In British Columbia, Canada where I live, our Government started a smoking cessation program in early November of this year.  The deal is, anyone who wanted to quit smoking could call a phone number and talk to a nurse for free, 24/7 and she would go over the program details with you on the phone.  You then had a choice of a prescription of nicotine patch, lozenges, or Champix.  I tried something similar before (Zyban) back in 2001 and I quit on it for a year, smoked again, tried Zyban again in 2006, but didn't work.  Maybe the will wasn't strong enough. Anyways, then you'd take a registration # to any pharmacy and you'd get a prescription for 8 weeks worth. Problem is...the manufacturer of Habitrol patches was in such demand, that it there were 3 weeks delays coming back into stock at the pharmacy.

Anyways, I have been very sleepy, dry throat, wield dreams, a little dizziness, but that's all.  Overall, I feel calm and relaxed, which I am very surprised about.

The patch is working really well, I am feeling pretty calm about breaking this habit.

Hello
welcome to the club.
I stopped smoking two days before you  using the Nicotine Patches. I purchased them from CVS  which is circular and stick better to the skin and costs 12 dollars less for 14 patches.I started with 21 mg patches and  I am doing great so far. YOU CAN DO IT. Keep me posted on you progress.

Hi Jedimaster7!

Congrats on the quit!

Will you be using anything else (other than NRT) to support your quit?

Please keep us posted about how you are doing. We are all here to support you.

You can do it!

Hi!
Did anyone else quit on Dec. 03, 2011?
I did.  This is quit #3 but this time I am on NRT Nicotine patch (thought I'd try it).

How have youbeen doing if you quit on the same day as I did?
