Your Top 3- Inspiration

12 years ago 0 1904 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
In God and others. When I see people do things that I didn't think was possible, it is always inspiring--like my 60 year old friend taking off thirty pounds one year. A few years back I met a seventy-six year old man who had not smoked for sixteen years. That to me was amazing, because I thought 50 was too late to quit, that at that point you were already likely to get lung cancer, so why bother to quit?  I have so little control over most things that my faith in God pulls me through most days. I will acknowledge that I often have some influence, although little control. However, God often works through people, like my friend, that seventy-six year old man, and the people here.

Hi Luna, "The promise of a new way of life." You know I didn't expect a new way of life. I only expected pain and sacrifice. But you put your finger on it Luna. A new way of life, a calmer, easier way of life, a way of life I never expected. And along the way I met Eyja and DebbyP and R2Q and a host of other good people who are taking the trip with me. And I met you Luna, who reminded me of the "new way of life" I have found. Thank you all.

Thank you Luna : )  for those fine words of encouragement and support!  You have a lovely way with words and your 7 + year Quit is a testament to your success and wisdom in finding your way to long term quit success. Thanks for popping in to show us how it's done! Ya know, when I was going through the teeth gnashing phase, I discovered cinnamon sticks (natural cinnamon bark before it's ground) and thought I was really onto something, so I recommended this to someone here. Well, she wrote back to tell me that she burned her mouth and it lasted for hours when she tried it out! Whoops!  (Geez; I never even noticed they were hot, LOL)  so I withdrew that 'tip' from the advice I now share! I also thought I could speed up my 'cleanse' to rid myself of the toxins from nicotine quicker if I went on a 'Prune Replacement Therapy' diet - so whenever I got a nicotine craving during the first 3 days of my Quit, I ate a prune instead . . . I thought this was great, until things starting backing up on me, that is!  Uhhhh - turned out to be a crappy deal too!  And NOT a great thing to try unless you have 3 days off work to spend wallowing in your (fill in expletive as you see fit!) So had to withdraw that 'tip' from Eyja's personal advice column on "How to Quit Smoking for Good!" too  LOL
Now I'm happy to just 'daily pledge' and send support when I feel I can offer something of value - and just remember NOPE!   : ) Eyja

Eyja and Willisv56,

I'm with you both on this one! Inspiration comes from the camaraderie found in this group.

I was also truly inspired by those who could maintain a sense of humor and make me laugh out loud here while I was gnashing my teeth.

Finally, inspiration comes from the promise of a new way of life — and all that includes — it is far-reaching.

Right back at ya Willisv56 - You're a great quit bud!  It helps immensely and is very inspirational to find out there are folks with a similar history traveling down this road to freedom from Nicotine. I like the relative anonymity coupled with the intense and heartfelt personal journeys shared here.  It’s so much nicer to Quit with the support of a network such as SSC than it is to push through an attempted Quit by sheer willpower - only to find yourself back in the same place, smoke in hand,  again and again.  Once we understand NOPE, start chalking up our quit stats and cheering each other on - there is no stopping the inspiration (that transfers into all areas of our lives)  So here’s a cheer to my top 3 - SSC, Inspiration & Quit Buds who understand!

....with the people here that are going through the same thing that I am. Only they understand. Not my family, not my friends for years, not my Mother. But Eyja understands even though I never met her and never will. Eyja understands and that made all the difference in the world.

William - Free and Healing for Eight Months, Twenty Four Days, 8 Hours and 6 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 32 Days and 17 Hours, by avoiding the use of 9427 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $4,289.37.
