What makes SSC so valuable to you?

of course I forgot what I really wanted to say and that is did you recommend Alan Carrs book to her? Again the library is a great free source.

Eyja, your friend with no computer intrigues me. Is that because she is against using them or is it financial? Because they are really cheap now I bought an Android 8 inch pad for 102 bucks. There are also great used laptops. The library is also a great place to use computers and get familiar with their use. Just a thought.

Hi Ashley, When I decided to quit smoking and then actually did stop, many unexpected things began to happen. Many of these things were wonderful and we have discussed them here along the way, but one thing I found especially surprising was that I was alone. I have a wonderful lifelong partner in my wife but she is a smoker and when it comes to quitting she does not want to go there. I respect that but still my journey was/is a long hard one and I just felt like I really needed a friend. A friend.....that is what I found at the SSC. Many , many friends in fact ,some have touched me more deeply than others (Hi Eyja !!) but all were willing to listen and lend an ear or to just say YAY! -when I needed them they were/are always here.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that while it is critical that you educate yourself to the facts of tobacco use and nicotine addiction. In the end you need a partner in this very worthwhile endevour and that is what you will find at the Stop Smoking Center.

William - Free and Healing for Eight Months, Four Days, 22 Hours and 47 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 30 Days, by avoiding the use of 8643 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $3,929.20.

Thanks for this great post Ashley : )  When I joined SSC, it was because I was desperate to ensure my current Quit would stick.  After a 3 years quit, I relapsed due to family related stress and spiraled down to a serial quitter/closet smoker mentality where I would  'quit' on the patch 6 wks, then smoke for 6 wks - then patch for 6 wks, etc  - for 3 full years!
My health & self confidence was at an all time low!  SSC educated me on my addiction.  I didn't understand NOPE! I thought I could have '1' puff as soon as I'd overcome the physical symptom of quitting for 'long enough'. I was WRONG!  So I read all I could & 'fessed up to my 'weakness' here. I was surprised to find out I wasn't alone after all!
I know many people come and go from the SSC site, and once confidently 'quit', many do move on - but over time,  it's neat to see the long time successful quitters (like Lainey :)  return with words of compassion just when someone needs them most!
Lainey says the site was more active in the past.  It's always been a bit quiet since I've been here for the past 9 mos, but I've found comfort in the support I've received and feel compelled to give back with words of support (what's working for me anyway) when I can.
My question is:  I have an older friend with no computer who could really benefit from SSC -  I wonder if the Smoker's Helpline would offer her support when she gets quit underway?  Is it telephone based support?

I just yesterday told a family member about this site. I think what I found so great here was that, there were people from all over the world on this one site, who had gone through the process and were willing to support me every step of the way. When I thought I couldn't do it, I was encouraged, they told me what to expect and they told me I could do it. It gave me courage to keep going, it gave me stamina to hang in there, and it gave me something to keep me busy, by reading and posting here. it gave me the support that just isn't out there in the "real" world.
Even if you had a best friend whose been quit to help you out - it's not quite the same as being here. When I quit, the site was very busy, we gathered with quit buddies and made friends and helped each other along the way. There were different opinions, different experiences, but all with one common goal - to quit! It even made quitting fun.
It can be that way again if people only realized how much posting and interacting with others helps you to grow and thrive in your own quit! There is nothing quite like this place for support out there, Join up. It is what YOU make of it!

Hi Everyone!

If a friend of yours wanted to quit smoking what would you tell them about the SSC? How has the SSC helped you? What is important about the site to you?

Some of what you say may be used in upcoming promotional material!
