Thanks for this great post Ashley : ) When I joined SSC, it was because I was desperate to ensure my current Quit would stick. After a 3 years quit, I relapsed due to family related stress and spiraled down to a serial quitter/closet smoker mentality where I would 'quit' on the patch 6 wks, then smoke for 6 wks - then patch for 6 wks, etc - for 3 full years!
My health & self confidence was at an all time low! SSC educated me on my addiction. I didn't understand NOPE! I thought I could have '1' puff as soon as I'd overcome the physical symptom of quitting for 'long enough'. I was WRONG! So I read all I could & 'fessed up to my 'weakness' here. I was surprised to find out I wasn't alone after all!
I know many people come and go from the SSC site, and once confidently 'quit', many do move on - but over time, it's neat to see the long time successful quitters (like Lainey :) return with words of compassion just when someone needs them most!
Lainey says the site was more active in the past. It's always been a bit quiet since I've been here for the past 9 mos, but I've found comfort in the support I've received and feel compelled to give back with words of support (what's working for me anyway) when I can.
My question is: I have an older friend with no computer who could really benefit from SSC - I wonder if the Smoker's Helpline would offer her support when she gets quit underway? Is it telephone based support?
