I have read that tobacco is one of the first "luxurys" poor people buy after food and shelter. But with the soaring prices now for cigarettes ( 10 dollars a pack here) did that change? Do you have any insights as to the reasons for that Vincenza? How do think we could help low income folks get better informed about the truth of tobacco rather than just the advertising they see at the retail stores?
Statistics on smoking world-wide reveal that a majority of smokers come from low and middle income countries. Smoking among women and teenagers is on the rise while smoking among men from high-income countries is generally declining.
