Hi Frieda,
I gained weight too when I quit and I was so worried that it would drive me back to smoking.  I had never had to worry about weight so it was a real shock.  I had to focus on the things that were changing little by little.  Like my lungs becoming clearer day by day. The fact that I noticed that I could laugh at a joke without the hacking smokers cough as embarrassing background noise.  That I could walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing.  That I could go outside on a spring day and smell the new growth.  That I no longer am tethered to the convenience store to feed the monster. (Not too mention draining my wallet.)
After the first year anniversary, when  I felt more stable, I joined a Weight loss program and took off the Stop Smoking Weight gain.  I also took out my bike that had been gathering dust in the garage and began exploring the local rail trail.  I feel better today than I have in 20 years, but I too have had days when I wondered if it was worth it.
I advise making a list of your achievements and focusing there.  Try something new that you wouldn't have done before.  You CAN do this.  It IS worth it.  I promise.  :)

How's it going?  Speaking from experience, all those smoke-free days would be a terrible thing to throw in the trash because of one bad day or even one bad moment.  I totally agree with Penitent; you're an adult and can choose your poison, but as one who has made the wrong choice and bitterly regretted it many times, I hope you'll stay on the right path!  Please let us know how you're doing.  Thanks!

Hi Frieda.  Sometimes it takes a little longer to see the positive results that others talk about.  I was one of those people too, but when it hit, BAM, I knew I'd never smoke again.  Just be patient a little longer - I think it took me about 6 months. It's a different type of high and I love it.  
Gaining weight is not uncommon, but once you get your quit under control, start a bit of exercising and you'll see your weight start to drop off again.  If you search around, there are numerous threads about weight gain.  Even though you  have gained some weight, the positive benefits of not smoking for 104 days far outweigh that (no pun intended!).  Take a look at your stats and you'll see some really positive things that have materialized:  104 days quit, 3,120 cigarettes not smoked, $624 saved, and 11 days added to your life.  Not too shabby!  Plus I bet you smell better too!  These are all positive things.  Hang in there, it's definitely worth it.  You're worth it!

Great work!  Try not to get discouraged.  You will see the benefits, just stick with it.

That is a big achievement but from what you write it seems to me that you don't really want to be quit.

 

If that is the case, stop putting yourself through this type of pain and misery. A different type of pain and misery is still available to you. You're an adult and it's a choice.

103 days smoke free and I am now fat and still craving cigs like I quit yesterday. I thought I would have all this extra energy, look better have more money. So far none of these have materialized. I am so disappointed.
