GETTING STARTED QUITTING AGAIN

How wierd! So as mentioned more & more I've been kickin the idea of quitting. Getting one step closer, I was thinking "what was that site that helped me?" I wonder what peteg is up to? (no kiddin).
So a quick google got me back here....I look for familiar faces (names) and lo and behold I see your post and that you recently quit. Seeing you on here motivated me to sign back up.
 As I remember you had a few weeks on me last time as well, and we both started back about the same time. Is this your 1st quit since then? If so, the irony is too much.
 
Good seeing you, bud. I look forward to helping eachother out again.

Me, I'm only a few steps ahead of you, but I totally agree; we hit a certain age where continuing to smoke just isn't an option, right?

It's flattering that you have come back to 'us' again. Sounds like you have a good plan in place. The Quit Meter is an excellent place to start. You can put in your quit date, even if it's in the future- as you may already know! Will keep that date a reality and committment. But no pressure! I also encourage you to do the homework in the program regarding if you are ready to quit.
 
The support from the group is great here, as you can see! Good luck. Keep us posted with your first steps and first successes!

Alice & Dunedad  In regard to Alan's book. One thing that I've learned and am eager to share with any newcomer that will listen is that we only have to go through withdrawal once only if we're willing to look past the immediate gratification of today. Alan took it one step further in saying that we never needed it and by smoking only perpetuated the idea that we did. Someone who has never smoked couldn't possibly need to smoke. It's a learned behaviour that we need to unlearn. Other than the few days of nicotine withdrawal the rest is head games and oh what a game it can be. One away from a pack a day. It's the newbie that keeps me smoke free one day at a time. So thank you. We can accomplish in numbers what may seem impossible by ourselves. Excellent for you. breather

Hello Alice  The book is for anybody and would be ideal for someone such as yourself that's in the early stages of the quit. I can only speak for myself but it does give a different perspective on stopping which I found very helpful. By the way you're doing awesome. Excellent for you. breather

Breather, I have heard little bits about that book.  Can you read it after you have already quit?  Or is it more intended for people who are thinking about quitting?

Welcome Dunedad  Sounds like a plan you have there ! Have you thought of how you will reward yourself ? The rewards don't have to cost very much but it helps to have something to replace the addiction. We need to retrain our brains so to speak. Also have you read Alan Carr's book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking ? I found it valuable in the short term. We need all the help we can get sometimes. You're the most important person here. I think its been 4 years since I last quit. That quit lasted for 6 months and it was my 1st attempt. The initial quit went pretty easy as I remember with the help of Wellbutrin, the patch and SSC. So I think I'll go with that regiment again. I really did not put much thought into NOPE last time. This time I sure will, because thats all it took.
 
My reasons for quitting this time: Well at 44 years old I am starting to really feel the health effects, just in the last year I have noticed shortness of breath and wheezing. I am tired of hiding and sneaking about to have a smoke. I hate that feeling of being trapped somewhere that normally should be enjoyable, but it is not because I can't have a smoke. I absolutley hate the smell that lingers. I remember when I was a non-smoker and smelled someone who just had one...I wanted to gag! I hate thinking others are going through that because of me.
Well, also money is a great motivator also. I have some circumstances right now that a couple hundred bucks a month could help out.
 
I'm going to see my doc this week and get a script, as I remember there is 2 weeks till date with that and I will start this program and come up with a quit date.
 
I think I see some familiar faces from before, give me a shout out!
