Forcemac,

What a great experience to share!

This is excellent validation and success!  I know the vacation was reward enough, but give yourself an extra reward for the great determination and will power!

So happy for you, what a great passing grade on the test!

Haven't posted in a while cause I was gone on that vacation...

First night of vacation was the hardest....after lots of drinks/shots and my old smoking buddies lighting up every 30mins, an almost unbearably craving hit me like a mack truck.....I have NO idea how I got through it ....but guess what???....I didn't smoke!!!! Even with the smoke blowing directly in my face...it was the worst craving ever...the next morning I felt great! NO hangover or headache, while my friends woke up with that nasty smokers cough and raspy voice after smoking over a pack each in there drunken state the night before.  After conquering the first night...I was so proud of myself for how I handled the first night that I used that as momentum to get through the rest of the trip with little to no craving during other drinking and smoke blowing in face events. Now I'm back home and have all the confidence in the world that I can EASILY get through any trigger event with ease....oh yea the hard part of my quit is OVER!!!!
Time to heal and lose the 10 lbs I have gained....I CANT STOP EATING!!!

Weekends are also tough for me; way too many years of associating TGIF with legal drugs (alcohol and nicotene).  I'm psyched about exploring new ways of enjoying some downtime without splitting headaches the following morning.  Like others here, I'm also psyched about getting that nasty smell out of my life.  And then, of course, there's that tropical vacation coming up.... oh wait.  That's not me; that's the shark-looking dude.  Sigh.  I still get confused.

Hey Fozzy!!!

The first weekend  "can"  be a bugger  IF  you let it!  Your mission... don't let it!  Distraction is the key word for this weekend!!!  Try to plan something fun to do or line up something to keep you busy!!  Many here have cleaned the house and or did the laundry to get the smoke smell out of them.  Others have done the same with their cars!  I know that my car reeked and I couldn't stand to drive it until I cleaned everything and sprayed it down with Fabreeze!!!

Again, do something fun as a reward for quitting!  Get out and enjoy the fall weather or go to a movie, go bowling, roller skating?  Exercise and breathing in good clean air is an added bonus for the new healthy you!  The thing is, now that you are not smoking, the sky is the limit because you no longer have to take a smoke break!  Put your thinking cap on...  you'll come up with something!!!  The thing is, you have to do something to distract yourself constantly thinking about smoking!!!  Have fun!!!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

13 years ago 0 19 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0

Hi all,

So I'm on my 4th day of not smoking and yes forcemac I would have to agree that day 3 was really bad.  I don't know why but I was out of my mind.

In order to get through this I have taken up walking during lunch instead of sitting there longing for a cigarette.  I also drop my car off at home after work and walk to do all my errands instead of driving.  It takes your mind off it.

I'm a little worried about how the first weekend is going to go.  Any suggestions?

yes guys, hell week is the worst ever! BUT it's the worst you'll ever feel so keep that in mind. After hell week there are good days, bad days, good moments and bad moments but they'll never equal hell week and you get over it quicker day by day. Be patient with yourself, take some time to debate with yourself what's happening, and you'll see that the rational and reasonable side of you will always win. Always come back to the forum, we can all help each other. Way to go!!!

You are doing great!!!  Just hang tight it does get better.  I am on day 6 of hell week and this is going to be my last hell week!!!  I am a repeater and have gone though this a number of times.  Don't follow my example stay quit so you don't ever have to go though this again.

Hello Everyone!!! Thanks so much for all the good advice as I have gone through ALL the great information on this web site...I really like the daily craving diary....and you can make a really cool graph from that....luv it. It will be interesting to plot my cravings over the next couple of weeks...I am hoping for a steep drop off!!!

So here is the UPDATE....DAY 3 of hell week...It started off great...no craving at all during my drive to work ( I used to love my 2 cigg's and coffee) ...my first and HEAVY craving came only about 15 min from getting settled in at work. and so I took one of my "brisk walks" and it seemed to do the trick, only to get another intense craving about an hour later, and another after eating lunch....I have been told that day 3 is the worst, and it is living up to its name!!! I am truly dedicated and have not given it yet. I am still at work...and even though it is not good to have caffine right now...I have rewarded myself for not smoking with a Dr. Pepper my favorite soda.

Fozzy congrats to you as well for deciding to take the plunge to a life of pink lungs....I'm so glad I got someone else to quit with that has the same quit date as me....how the heck is your hell week going, and how are you dealing with all the cravings/withdrawal  symptoms???

Stay Tuned for Day 4 of being Smoke Free

Hey Forcemac,

Congratulations on quitting!  I also quit on Monday.  It's hard but we can both do it.

Listen to the advice that everyone is giving you.  It really helps.

Good luck!
