Hi again!

I'm glad you were able to get your pic to post!  The age thing is another thing that is weird.  I usually keep and eye on it and when it says I'm a year older, I just adjust my birthday year in my profile so that it reads right!    Of course I have to change it back sometime during the year to get it right again!!!

Keep your list of coping mechanisms close this weekend!  Remember to try to stay in the nice clean, fresh air as much as possible and practice your deep breathing in the fresh air when a craving comes a calling!  One more long standing piece of advice...  if you get a real bad craving and you think your just about ready to cave, get on line here and post for help!!!  Wait for 5 replies and by then, your craving should be gone!!!  It has work for many of us here and I hope it works for you, if necessary!!!

YOU  CAN  DO  IT!!!  Have a great smoke-free weekend!!!

Thank you, I was finally able to download a pic by resizing it.  I also don't like how my age says 50.  I am 49 for one more month LOL.   I have read a lot of posts and this site really is helpful.  I guess misery loves company and it's helpful to know that I'm not the only one going through this and I love reading all the positive advice and feed back from everyone.

Upon waking every morning, after a minute or so I remember that I am not smoking and I get this disappointed feeling and a dread.  How many mornings is this going to happen?

Are you using any NRTs?  Is this the first time you've tried to quit?  I know today will be hard for you, but you CAN do it.  I think the first 3 days are the hardest and it gets easier every day.   I'm on my 5th day today.  This weekend I will be around smokers and I know that will be an obstacle to get through.  I send every bit of positive vibes your way!

Good morning!!!

Luvlambs:  When I first tried to download a pic, it wouldn't load and update because it was too big.  You could try to resize it or try a smaller sized picture, which worked for me!

     Hey Tye!

I, too, had over 37 years in as a full time smoker!  This may well be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life, but it will definitely be the  MOST  rewarding thing you will ever do!  Be sure to go through all of the milestones in the Program!  There is a lot of great info that will help you through the process!  Any questions, just ask!  You now have a bunch of great quit buddies here who are always willing to offer advice!  Also, the search function always works well on this site... try it out to find out what advice has been offered on different subjects!

Stick close, post often and read and learn!  I basically lived on this site in the beginning of my quit and it was one of the keys to my success!!  Could be yours, too!

Welcome lamb  Isn't it going to be nice on the 27th when you tell your doctor that you aren't smoking. I remember that I was a mess 1/2 way through hell week to say the least. Be sure to keep ice water on hand to wash away the craves. Craves are few , dwells are many. Try not to dwell. Be sure and be kind to yourself. Join with the other new quitters here as there's strength in numbers. Excellent for you. breather

welcome lamb, I noticed you are new here...I quit 17 minutes ago, setting my quit date for Oct 1.....so here we go!! I have to have major surgery on Oct 27th and my surgeon says if I don't quit, he is not going to help me. (I need stomach revision because of ulcers) So smoking is no longer an option...37 years later, Im finally stopping!

Thank you for the much needed tips.  A technical question - I don't think my pic is appearing, is there something I can do about this?  I posted it under the Avatar and updated.   Maybe we just don't see our own pic?????

Hey Luvlambs49,

You're right... you can do this...and you are doing this!

It might be time (if you haven't already) to put together a coping plan. Here is a quick overview of the key themes to think about.  If you feel the urge, or are tempted to smoke:

AVOID the situation.

Identify the situations when you normally smoke or feel a craving for a cigarette. For most smokers, high-risk situations include work breaks, finishing meals, having coffee or being in a bar. Plan how you will avoid these situations for a few weeks. Plan for alternate activities.

LEAVE the situation.

If you find yourself in one of these high risk situations, leave if you can. And, leave before you get a craving.

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.

If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by:

•    Thinking about something else, like your benefits of quitting smoking (or how much money you’re saving every week).
•    Do something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing to relax.
•    Think about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY taking the cigarette.

If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK

A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.

Good luck and keep posting here often.
