You are so right, Mr Quitter.  The other day my aunt implied I had not really quit smoking May 1st, because I had been slipping. She said it with a smile on her face. I don't know where she got that from (my aunt has always liked to keep up crap),  but I suspect one of my sisters told her that because they are the type to do so. I told her that if I slip she'll know it, because I don't slip; I relapse.

Now that my diet has started, my cousin invites me to eat everything in their house when I visit. "There's more on the stove. Eat all you want." I was fat before I started the diet. The other day I told her to stop it. So you see why I didn't tell anyone when I quit smoking. My family's dysfunctional. We don't allow recovery.

Warning - This comment has iffy language.  Parental discretion is advised.  lol.

I'm going to throw this out there on the off chance your a little bit like me.  Do it out of spite.  The non smokers can be the worst.  Even worse can be the ex smokers.

It's addictive.  I remember what got me was I grew up with a few friends that are still friends today and when we were younger I was the was fighting their battles and they were the biggest bitc%es on the planet.  Guy bitc%es that is, and they still are to a degree.  After I had tried quitting and failing over and over again I kept getting the weakness comments over and over again.  See bitc%es, especially guy bitc%es feel better by taking little shots here and there.  They feel good about getting this type of reaction from you.

Now I'm not saying that spite is good enough to maintain a quit but it sure feels good to see the surprise on the bitc%es faces when you pull it off.  I enjoyed it quite a bit.  My favorite is when they ask you over and over again if you've started back up.  "No!  I swear, you must be keeping charts on me or something.  Do you have nothing better to do with your time than keep track of my progress every five minutes."  Some people just want you to fail.  So don't.

My first (and last) quit lasted 3 months and I hadn't even told anyone about it - he just asked me one day "you still smoking?" and I said "no" - that's it, that was the extent of our discussion about my smoking.  Where he came up with what he said today, I have no idea - I had never, ever told anyone here of my plans for my prior quit and only wanted to mention it today so they'd know why I was a little "off my game".
It's over...said and done, finne, etc.  Almost time to go home, have a quick dinner, and crawl into bed.  I'll sure get caught up on my sleep this week!

Like you said, Jeff's an a$$. I had a doctor once tell me that four days was nothing. Those who have no addictions don't get how difficult it is to stop one.

People are going to say cruel things to you fairly often. You can't use that as a reason to smoke any more than you can use stress as a reason. Hold your head high and protect yourself. I don't buy the idea that you tell everyone when you quit smoking. Some people will be non-supportive for a whole host of reasons. Don't tell people who aren't likely to understand. I had "quit smoking" so many times that it was two months before I let anyone know this time. I didn't tell my best friend, who lives in another state, until a month before she visited me in September and even then I let it slip out because I was hospitalized. In a way, I don't think we can blame people for not believing us when we have tried and failed so many times. They have heard it before--sometimes many times before.

Thanks wnt2befree - I hear what your saying.  You're right...I can't really turn to anyone for support (except everyone here that is).  I wasn't telling them for support, I was telling them so that if/when my mood got really ugly, they would understand why.  Next time Jeff says anything negative to me, I'm just going to punch him in the face!  That will make me feel LOADS better!
