Only one or two very, very. very (like Duffis!) old hands will remember the Mad Englishman......who stumbled on this site 1394 days ago in a mess. Nearly 50 years old, he was pretty desperate to give up the dreaded cigars, having tried verything over the years at least twice.

Fed up with smelling like a disgusting ashtray, fed up with lying to his wife and children about stopping smoking, hating himself for being weak and useless at not being able to stop putting those revolting things into his mouth and sucking a great lung full of god knows what...........and frightened of dying early with failing health and shortness of breath.

Then, with the help of the people on this wonderful site, there was a blinding flash and the truth was suddenly clear......
.
THERE ARE THREE FOOLPROOF WAYS TO STOP SMOKING!!!!!!

1. You die..........................simple and effective........just keep sticking those things in your mouth and keep right on dragging it all in and its gauranteed 100% effective........but as scare tactics never worked for me............on to the next one.

2. You realise what you are dealing with and you learn as much as you can about the addiction. Yes.....I used the word addiction, because with a little bit of reading, with a little bit of help (well maybe a lot from the people who give their time to post and support on the forums) you suddenly understand a lot more about the drug that you are fighting. It doesn't make it any easier..........my first 7 days of the 1394 to date were horrible. The next 7 were a little easier, but still horrible......and so it continued....until I realised today that I had probably not been on this site for over a year.

One of the key things for me was that I really, really and finally did want to stop after many years of trying. I truly did want to stop. I like to think of myself as reasonably intelligent (although old readers of my many mad posts......te he....remember the Lord of the Rings saga where Duffis was revealed as actually being Gandalf in disguise and Bogbott's dog peed on the carpet, might wish to differ!) but I realised that previously I did not know how to stop. For me it was simple......you just stop! You realise that a cigarette or cigar in my case, is simply a tube with a fire at one end and a fool at the other. You can then deal with the physical withdrawal symptoms for 72 hours and then spend the rest of the time dealing with your head.

Everyone is different........I don't want to enter the nicotine substitution debate but personally I could not cope with the concept of replacing the delivery system.........its the nicotine we are trying to really get rid of the dependence on. I went cold turkey and it worked for me.

What was vital, what really made the difference between success or failure........was the people on this site and the community that exists here. Like-minded people having the same problems, fears and dificulties that I was experiencing day by day. And that was another key thing.......one day at a time.

Of course there were problems.............weighing about the same as an aircraft carrier after about six months was my major sideeffect! But today, using the same day by day approach, I am back down to a sensible weight for my age and can do 25 miles on my mountain bike if I don't try to keep up with my 17 year old son.........who along with the 15 year old daughter.......I might just see grow up, get married and maybe grandchildren. The one certainly is that they will always probably cost me money.......but what the hell......look at the money saved on the stats!

Still too hard? then method 3 may be for you.

3. The secret quit method. I lied to you.......method number two was not really the way I did it. Many years of careful research revealed to me a fantastic, easy and guaranteed way to stop with no effort, no cravings, no withdrawl and instant results.

But I'm not going to share it with those that cannot prove their ability to solve a simple problem. Send me photographic evidence of success and I'll sent you the secret quit by return completely free of charge!

Simply........................................
