Members,

This week is Prostate Cancer Awareness Week

Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer in Canadian men. In men, it is the third leading cause of death.   The cause of prostate cancer is not clear but smoking could be a risk factor. It may also progress the cancer more quickly and worsen symptoms of treatment.

Often the disease is treatable and treatment normally occurs immediately after diagnoses. If you have any symptoms of prostate cancer, please see your doctor as soon as possible.

Signs and symptoms for prostate cancer are:

  • A need to urinate frequently, especially at night;
  • Difficulty starting urination or holding back urine;
  • Weak or interrupted flow of urine;
  • Painful or burning urination;
  • Difficulty in having an erection;
  • Painful ejaculation;
  • Blood in urine or semen; or
  • Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs.
The above information was taken from The Prostate Cancer Foundation to read more please visit: http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org
