Why did you choose your SSC name?

It's what I am when I'm not at work! I spend a lot of time around the neighborhood blowing snow, cleaning roofs, mowing lawn, pruning trees, and a little carpentry work. Do the same at my parents and my wifes mothers place.

I wonder what Betty Davis went through?  :)

So, why fight it?

Chose my SSC name because it's what I use for everything.  I like to read (or at lease I did before I quit smoking - they went hand in hand).  msreader must have been taken years ago when I first attempted to use it somewhere...so I switched it to msreader1.  Kind of boring.

OK, OK!!!

Quite a few of you have come real close to I might have chosen Hot SiO2....  Yes, it does have to do with my profession!  SiO2 is the chemical symbol for Silicon Dioxide, which is the main ingredient in all glass.  I work with different kinds of glass and to do that you have to get it HOT!!!!

A certain type of glass that I work with is called clear fused quartz, which is 99.9996% pure SiO2!!! One of the properties of the pure quartz is that it melts at a much higher temperature than all other types of glass and that is when I get REAL HOT!!  The quartz gets so hot when you work it, it really puts out the UV radiation and if I don't use at least a 30 SPF, I'll get a helluva sunburn in about 10 minutes!

Anyways, that's the reason I chose the silly name!!!  Hope you all enjoyed the story!!!  If you want to read a link about me, add me to your buddy list and get on the IM here during the week and I'll send it to you.   Better hurry, though....    I'm going in for ankle surgery on Thursday and I'll probably be out of commission on here for a few days!!!
