it's so great seeing good feedback, this website is really helpful. Okay, so this is the deal , my first cigerette of the day was at noon, thats 4 hours after waking up! and my second was at 6 pm ! I feel so good , it's such an accomplishment for me. I've reduced so much and it takes a lot of will power. The only thing I hate about reducing and not smoking as much is I'm alot more edgy, and anything just made me angry , it's as if i had an on and off switch on how to control my mood. Has anyone else ever noticed that when you reduce a lot or quit cold turkey ?

Morgan, welcome to the SSC and congratulations on thinking about quitting smoking.  I smoke for 20 years, 2 packs a day.  I had some medical issues that started in April 2008.  After my oncologist gave me some food for thought on August 18 (either quit smoking or you'll be on meds for the rest of your life, weekly blood tests, daily shots in my stomach, etc.) I decided to quit smoking two days later.  You are young.  I don't want you to go through what I went through. When you make the decision to quit, just be sure you are quitting for YOU!  Go through "my program" as there is a wealth of information there.  And spend some time reading here too.  There is some good stuff on this site.  Let us know when you are ready to take the plunge and we'll all be here to help you along!

Morgan-
Without falling into lecture mode I just want to let you know how impressive it is that you are even thinking about not smoking at 17. I know there is a lot of peer pressure but you have to do a reality check every now and again and the reality in your situation is: If someone is putting pressure on you to smoke then they are not your peer or your friend.
Also, I wish I had the insight at 17 that you seem to grasp- I smoked from age 16 to 40. In that time I smoked roughly 168,000 cigarettes. It cost me out of pocket roughly $25,000. ....... If I would have properly invested even half of this money who knows... Most people who have smoked for many years don't even want to start adding up the numbers.
Don't be like us. You have a choice. This is important.
Tim

Hey Morgan.

Looks like you've found something that works for you, thats a good thing mate. It is better to quit young, you'll do less damage to yourself.

Anyway when your ready is better than never, but please make it sooner rather than later. I quit for 3 months when i was 15. I'm far too ashamed to tell anyone when i started smoking. I cant understand why i ever went back to it. It was so much easier then than it is now.

Good luck mate.

Hi Morgan,
Yes take your best shot now while you are 17! I quit for seven days during senior week of high school. However, I was not quite "ready" then and went on to smoke for a total of 42 years! Do this now and spare yourself the damage. The longer you smoke the harder it is to quit. You can definately do this if I can. Ismoked like a chimney - forever.
Stick close  to this site and give it your best shot!

Hi there, my name is Morgan , I'm seventeen years old and i got into the habit of smoking at a young age . I've quit twice before and yet i still smoked again. It's been almost 2 years since I have been smoking full on. I use ciggerettes to calm me down from anxiety. I went to wal mart yesterday on the 14th of july and picked up a thrive 2 mg dosage of there gum and a 1 mg dosage of there losenge's. The gum works really well, it doesnt leave the burning , or the sore throat or the after taste. It's never easy to say you're 17 and smoke up to half a pack of smokes a day. Yesterday i had 3 smokes, all day  and I chewed 3 pieces of gum. Today i've been up since 7.30 am , I havent chewed any gum, no losenge's , not even a smoke. it's been over 4 hours. I think i must be crazy or something because right now i would of had atleast 3 smokes. I feel so proud and so happy , but yet the only people who are happy for me are smokers too or ex smokers. People who don't smoke don't know what people who do smoke go through. Frankly it's really embarassing when I'm needing a smoke really bad. My goal was to reduce, I know I'm not quite ready to quit and the reason i know that is because my 18th birthday is in 3 weeks and I know i'll smoke a lot . This product works, it feeds your cravings, it doesnt taste bad , its cheaper than smoking. I paid 9.50 for a pack of 36 pieces, and i only had 3 pieces in one day. I've told all my friends, and everyone who I know who smokes at work about Thrive and I'm sure they'll be just as impressed as i was. I just want everyone to know, good luck on quitting its definetly easier said than done. I know that I'll quit when im ready, and im okay with that. And to everyone who's quitting it takes a real person to get over their addiction and realize they can do it, and they will do it. It's a lot of will power and a lot of struggles but it's worth it, i can tell.
