jaset, My long lost twin!!! Tell it like it is!! Josie has slapped me on the wrist for telling it like it is more than once, ( ;p ) but someone has to stand up and shout.. "Stop the madness!" Thank you for this reminder that the bottom line to smoking is death. Every newbie should print this out and tape it to their forehead!! Be Strong. Be Smart. Well said! Each wannabe quitter responds to something. We all have our different styles and different catalysts work for different people. I am certain that this post will affect many, anger a few, but probably inspire several. Go for it! Glad I waited for a few posts before adding my 2 measly cents. I also agree that all points made are valid and yes it is the truth. However, as soon as we found out the truth, did we quit? We smoked for many years, despite the truth - all of us. I agree that this is exactly what we need to continually say to ourselves to remain quit. Tough love - OK! What I see is that reformed smoker who we all said we didn't want to be when we quit. The one who continually badgered people to quit until you just had to walk away saying "If that's what it's like to be quit, then I don't want to!" Anger at the addiction has a place - yes, a big one. No I didn't get it, I didn't want to. Yes I was afraid, afraid of what to do when I was bored, when I was nervous, what will I do with my time, how will I go on vacations, how will I still be with my friends, what will I do when I watch TV. It will be a year for me the 28th. A favorite phrase "Knowledge replaces fear" by Golferman woke me up. I realized I needed to beat this addiction and needed all the ammo to do so. So I read many stop smoking sites, one in particular I would view daily, it was very very sad. A young healthy man in his prime, looked strong, looked healthy. Had lung cancer and lost his fight within 2 months. He never thought it would happen to him, the tears falling from his wife's face at his bedside, the scared look on his little boys face. I have always wanted to thank you Golferman.

Jaset....I love your post....congratulations on getting away with laying it out in a straight line. When I quit, there were very few people on these boards...and believe me, there wasn't much room for slipping, sliding around and whining. From the way the elder quitters talked then, I never considered failing as an option LOL. I think it's very important to realize that we are "addicts" and that the addiction is a KILLER. Once you see that, you realize there is no room for "maybe or perhaps or I'm trying" there is one way and one way only..... SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION.....PERIOD....POLK-A-DOT Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1844 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73,792 Amount Saved: $10510.8 Life Gained: Days: 243 Hrs: 7 Mins: 7 Seconds: 17
