Hey Marisol!

Welcome to the SSC and congratulations for making such a determined decision!!!   You really CAN do this...  It's just a matter of wanting to be a non-smoker MORE than being a smoker!!!  Just that easy....   NOT!!!

It is NOT easy, but the better Positive Mental Attitude you have going on this journey, the better chance you will have to succeed!!!  Be ready for the battles with the nico-demon and be determined to never let him win one single battle!!!  Commit and embrace the quit!!!

If you need anything from us, just post!!!  If you are craving and feel that you are about to lose the battle, POST and yell for help!!!  If you wait for at least 5 responses, your crave will be gone!!!  Breath deeply and WILL the nico-demon away!!!

Marisol, welcome to the SSC.  And yes, I will support you in your quit!  I also smoked for about 20 years, about 2 packs a day.  You have made a wonderful decision to quit tonight.  Unfortunately for me, an oncologist convinced me that I needed to quit smoking, otherwise I would be on medication the rest of my life AND there was a very strong chance that cancer would occur.  I had a HUGE health scare, and two days later I went cold turkey.  Today I am happy to celebrate that I am 300 days smoke free.  I am off medications.  My diet isn't limited.  I'm healthier than ever.  I can breathe.  I can walk without getting winded.  I have not spent a couple thousand dollars on cancer sticks.  I can smell the roses.  I don't miss out on important things in life since I don't have to step outside to smoke.   I receive high fives from doctors instead of lectures about smoking.  I'm sure you can start writing a similar list of all the wonderful things you can/will be able to do once you are a non-smoker.

So you've received some wonderful advice.  Work the program.  And don't forget to reward yourself!  We're all rooting for your success!

Hi Marisol!
Welcome to SSC!Think of that as
Most of us have tried more than once  to quit.  Think of that previous attempts as another way of learning a lot more about your own addiction. Now you already Know that you have to be 100% commited in order to be succesful. You have gained a better understanding of your addiction.
Go trough my program. It helps a lot. I quit wth the help of Chantix and this wonderful site. Be positive. You are not leaving your best friend behind, you are breaking apart from your worst enemy!
I recommend you to read the Allen Carr's book: Stop smoking the easy way.
I also suggest drinking lots of ice water, 5consecutive deep breathings holding it as much as you can also helps.
Hot showers and relaxing music help too. Resting as much as you can is also an aid.
Keep your hands busy and make sure to reward yourself for staying quit.
Long walks also are great for relaxing.
Educate yourself about this nasty addiction. The more you get to know your enemy, the easier is to defeat it!
Read and post as much as you need!
I'm rooting for your success!!!!

Hi Marisol. Many of us wish we had of quit the first time we tried, but we didn't. Many of us needed more practice before realizing our triggers and understanding how they really impact us. I knew I was ready to stay quit when I spent about two frustrating days back in May building my computer network without relapsing. I also knew it when I realized I could watch TV without craving cigarettes really badly. If I could overcome anger and boredom I knew that I could succeed. Learn as much about your triggers as you can. Some of them you may not know much about until you come across them. Treat that little ignorant voice in head, Nicodemon, like a rotten, envious friend that you must say goodbye to. Post on this board often.

Hello Marisol,

welcome and congratulations for you decision- and for your courage in posting- it is always weird the first time... sometimes, it is still weird for me even now, 2 months into my quit, when I realise I am opening up to complete "strangers"- but who understand me, in some points (our common addiction, its effects and reasons) more than my closest friends in "reality". Here is where we come for support, inspiration and strength.
I am 33 years old myself, so I understand where you are, at least age-wise....

Stay strong tonight!!! Go to bed early, drink a lot of calming tea (do you have camomile or anything?), watch a DVD, read a book, call a friend and post on this site! You might already be checking if somebody is answering you ;-)
See you here soon
Cat

A HUGE welcome to you, Marisol!!!  You have come to the right place, that is for sure. The hope and encouragement on here are truly amazing.

Congratulations to you for having the desire to quit...this is the first day of the rest of your life. I admire you for sharing your story with us. Always remember, there is only one you....you are a beautiful human being, unique in your own way so love and believe in yourself!!!

I only became a non-smoker two weeks ago (15 days now), I feel like a new person and so proud of myself for taking control of my own life instead of letting those terrible Nicodemons control me!

Drink lots of ice water when you feel the cravings and come on here when ever you feel the need. Post often and read all the helpful tips offered by those who have been non-smokers for longer. There is always someone here should you feel the need to talk.

You can do this, one day at a time and don't forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments!!! In fact, I think you deserve one just for coming on here with the desire to quit!!!

Welcome to being a non-smoker!! All the best.

Dear All,

My name is Marisol and I'm 35 years old. I am coming here to tell you and the world that I am tired of being ashamed of myself and I will stop smoking for good, once and for all, tonight.

I've been smoking for, easily, 20 years. I have lied to myself many times, trying to push forward the time when I actually started smoking regularly, so it could seem "less bad" than it is, but here I admit: It's been 20 years. I have also lied about how much I smoke: "Oh, a bit less than a pack a day", when it has always been a bit more than a pack, sometimes much more. And I've just come to realize that my smoking addiction is directly related to the fact that I've never liked myself, never felt I was worth much, had a very hard relationship with my mom for years (she doesn't smoke) and, to this date, have acted in ways that reinforced all these negative feelings, even though when I started smoking I thought it was "fighting" against those issues. How wrong have I been!

I never really tried to stop with all my heart, mind and body until now. I have spent times without a cigarette, but on nicotine lozenges(!) for a week or more, and not because of me but because of others (boyfriends, family etc). Last Sunday, thought, after finishing "the book", I decided to stop but relapsed without a fight 36 hours later, and I felt SO embarrassed, so guilty, so small... Ever since, I keep looking online for stories of young women who've died of cancer etc, trying to restate to myself that there is NO other way out from this addiction and its consequences, but to stop NOW.

I've found this site because I what I really searched was not for unreachable faces and horror stories, but for people like me, real, humans, who have a lot of good inside and want to replace the cancer-trigger fumes with more goodness. I saw your faces, and you look just like that. You have given me more than hope. I am now actually HAPPY about what's to come. I'll keep you posted :o)

BTW, how do I load a photo? I want you to know me too :)
