Cravings

14 years ago 0 1843 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0

Congratulations to our 8 day quitters!  Tabby, what great advice you provided on how to deal with stress and cravings!  My favorites are drinking lots of iced water to help with the cravings and to flush the toxins out of your body!  Chewing on carrots, celery sticks, altoids, pickles, straw, anything like that helps keep your hands busy.  Change your scenery if needed.  We were used to smoking in a specific spot either at work or at home.  Change your location.  If you used to smoke on the front porch, sit in the back yard.  If you smoked in the den while watching tv, move the tv to another room.  Its those little things that hopefully won't cause a trigger to occur.  I used to smoke while drinking regular black coffee.  When I quit, I switched to flavored coffee so it was a little bit different.  I still wanted my coffee, but it wasn't the same, so that helped eliminate a trigger.  You may do a search on "triggers" or "cravings" to see what other creative ideas members have used to deal with the cravings.  Just keep taking it one day at a time, one hour at a time if needed, and both of you will go far!

Tabbyh,

Thanks for the support!!! I am feeling better this afternoon....got two great books from the library and flowers for my balcony! Keeping busy is an important key. The flowers were my reward for 8days smoke free. I am doing this "cold turkey". I bought Thrive Mints but I got terrible heartburn from them. It is too bad because the two I had certainly took away the craving.

I added you as my buddy. I feel connected with us both quitting on the same day and will be looking for you on here to see how you are doing. Now here is a question for you...when you add someone as a buddy, then what,  do we have a list and if so where????? Dah! lol

Congrats to you both on making the decision to kick the habit!

You are well on your way and leaning on this wonderful site for support is a major aspect of a successful quit.

Hi Trillium,

Congrats on your quit.... feels great doesn't it?...
At times I would say... NO IT DOESN'T....
The "nicodemon" as I like to call it loves to  get into my head and try to tell me that I don't really want to quit, that I love smoking... that it's not worth going through the withdrawls, etc..
My cravings haven't been so bad... I have been using the Thrive Lozenges to help me out.... It recommends about 10 lozenges per day, but I have been using between 5 or 6 daily... I suck on one when I feel the cravings are just a bit too much...   Its mostly the habit that is harder to get past... seems like everything I did I did with a smoke in my hand... we have to learn to do things without it... changing the way we do things... sipping water, eating mints (in my case, eating everything in sight) Will need to join the weight lost forums after this .. :o)  Try keeping your hands busy when you are doing something as sitting out on your patio... have you tried knitting, or cross-stitching... its actually relaxing and keeps your hands busy... :o)
Good luck in your quit Trillium...   We can do it... one day at a time... just keep saying NOPE.

Hi tabbyh

I just read your post to lisa and noticed we have the same quit day. Just wondered how you are handling the cravings? Any tips would be appreciated. I find that some days are worse than others. It makes me realize just how much smoking controlled me. Congratulations to you for your 8 days...it is a wonderful feeling isn't it!
