Hi Haber!
Welcome to SSC.
Dont' say I hope, say I'm commited to make it work. Go trough my program and keeep a positive attitude. It does wonders. The first week is hard, so hang on and drink lots of ice water, popsicles, celery sticks, something to keep your hands busy, hot showers, long walks, deep breathing, the Allen Carr Book, and read and post as needed.
I'm rooting for your success!

haber, I am a leaf fan, so watch out!   However, just this once, I will root on a hab fan, you can get this quit done.  However, make sure to prepare properly for your quit.  Go through my program, there is a lot of tips that will help you quit.  Use your diary and quit meter, and track those cravings.  You will see visually as you go along that your quit gets better.  As Rock says, temporary inconvenience yields permanent results.  Get ready for the battle, and you will be breathing better in no time.  Read the boards and ask for help, use a NRT if you need.  Anything to keep the win against the nicodemon.  Welcome to SSC haber!

Hey Haber..........Montreal fan? Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. You can do this.... be aware of people, places and things that trigger your cravings. You already know when you would crave a cigarette the most. If you are a drinker, maybe cut back for the first month or better yet, stop completely. If you drive and smoke in your car, bring a straw or a pen to occupy your hands. Avoid that store that already has the pack of cigarettes waiting for you on the counter before you get there - and if that store is the only one around tell them to never sell you cigaretttes again. You know what im getting at. We already know that quitting is super duper hard so do anything to make it easier on yourself. Good luck.... fingers crossed.

Haber,

First off, welcome to the boards and congratulations on making the decision to become a non-smoker! You have already received a lot of great advice from other members here. Take some time to acquaint yourself with the site and the resources available here. Many members report this information to be incredibly useful in their quit. Reading older posts will also be helpful as you can hear about other members' experiences during each stage of their quit.

Rewards are also going to be important in your quit. Start thinking about how you will reward yourself when you are successful during your quit. This could be when you reach one week smoke-free, when you get through an intense craving or triggering time, or even to treat yourself for a successful day smoke-free!

Stay close to the boards and continue to post when you need to. You can do this and we are here for you every step of the way!

Good choice to quit smoking and we all know how hard it is, so here is a big hurrah for you.  I found a lot of past posts helpful in knowing what to expect and when.  Love the quit meter too, like to see all that green money I get to keep and not the sin taxes keeping!

Haber, welcome to the SSC, and Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking.  Are you using a NRT like gum or Chantix or are you going cold turkey?  Have you gone through "my program" so you have a plan in place?  Preparation is key to a successful quit!  Add your quit meter to your postings from "my profile".  Have you set up a reward system to celebrate each passed craving (small reward), each smoke free day (medium reward), and each smoke free week (larger reward)?  I suggest that you read as much as you can, using the search feature to look up topics that others have posted about.  Drink lots of iced water to flush the toxins out of your system.  Clean your house and car to get rid of the cigarette smell, and make sure you throw away all ashtrays, lighters, cigarettes, etc.  Post as often as you need.  If you are having major cravings, post here and wait for 5 responses.  By then the craving will be gone.  Some members swear by Alan Carr's book.  There are so many options, so choose what works best for you!  We're all rooting for your success!
