Hi
Welcome Misconduct!
You already received wonderful advice; the only thing I should add is that excercise releases dopamine, which is a feel good chemical substance in our brain; you don't have to kill yourself at the gym, just a nice walk or a bike ride will do it! Try it, you will feel less anxious, ergo you will eat less!

MissConduct, first, congratulations on 6 days smoke free!  You've been given some awesome advice!  They call it Hell Week for a reason.  There are mood swings, there's a little bit of anger, there's restlessness, there's nights of little sleep, there's days of craziness.  Its just your body is getting used to being without the constant flow of nicotine.  And yes, it all will pass.  Next week is Heck Week.  Things will be a little bit better.  Then you get into blah weeks, typically days 15 to 30.  Thats when things normally get back to normal.  Keep posting if you need help, venting as much as you need, as we've all gone through it.

Hi Miss C and well done on those impressive days! week one nearly down and out already. As for the mood swings, yep I had em, I quite liked them as I am normally such an easy going kind of person. I rowed with practically everyone and anyone and complained loudly about nearly everything!
Anyway, they passed and I am back to my normal old placid self- fun while it lasted though!

We all had those badddd days in the beginning........it's called withdrawal.......and your addicted mind is not happy about not getting it's fix.  After the drug is out of your system....your mind will be much better and that :tenseness: will go away.......you are very close, that's why we call the first week Hell Week.
It does get better slowly........
Stay Strong...............

Hey Miss Conduct!!!

One more day, and you'll have whooped that nicodemon's butt for a whole week!!!  Keep doing what you are doing and you'll make it through this fine and dandy!!!

On the topic of what to munch when having a beer....  try nuts (dry roasted) or pretzels, which are also baked.  I have found out that something without calories or few calories, like veggies or fruits really don't go well with a nice beer, so the nuts and pretzels, in moderation, were my choice!!  For me though, I really didn't give too much of a flip how much weight I gained right in the beginning...  I just did whatever I needed to do to protect my quit, and that was to have something I liked with my beer!  That was my daily reward for being a good non-smoker!  I'll be getting on the weight reduction plan as soon as my ankle is healed (almost there!!!)

Now, as for the mood swings... just try to relax as much as possible!  Think positive about the quit and how great you are doing, because you really are doing this AND you really have got that nicodemon on the run!!!  I know it really IS hard to keep that smile on your face, but you know what??  You really have accomplished an amazing feat so far and you really do have something to be happy and positive about!  Now, doesn't that make sense???

We're all pulling for you, so just yell when you need us!

              Jim

Hi MissConduct,
Again, your body and mind are being subjected to major changes. Everybody who cared about me walked on eggshells around me until I was quit for quite a while. If  my attitude had not improved from those early days I'd be on the funny farm (or in solitary confinement) now! One more day and you're through hell week!
You can do this!
