I'm good. My heart did a hiccup thing back in October (they called it a heart attack but what do they know) and since then no issues at all. Been out riding my bike (Harley) been working in the yard, been bustin' hump getting ready for the summer. I feel strong and I'm doing well.
My mom is sick, pulmonary fibrosis, possible lung cancer. She started smoking at age 12 back in '48 - they didn't know any better then. She quit in '95 but the damage was done I guess. We'll find out Friday or Monday if it's the big C. Fingers crossed. Even if not the big C, the doc said with the fibrosis she has maybe 5 years left. She smoked unfiltered Pall Malls for most of her smoking career.
Do you all know what a pack year is? A pack year is 20 cigarettes a day for 365 days. If you smoke 2 packs a day, one year = 2 pack years. To calculate pack years, multiply how many packs per day you smoked times how many years you smoked. However many years it would have taken you to smoke all the cigarettes you've smoked if you smoked them one pack a day is your pack years.
Mom smoked for 47 years, she smoked about two packs a day. That's 94 pack years folks. Not good. There are consequences.
I myself quit but I still have almost 60 pack years of smoking damage to my lungs. I don't feel anything, and God willing I never will but.....
I guess the point is - STAY QUIT!
So - The three most important things to do today are:
1. Don't smoke
2. Don't smoke
3. Don't smoke
Yup - that sums it up pretty good I think.
Later everyone - KEEP THE QUIT!
