Lori, rant as much as you need!  Thats what we are here for!  Congratulations on 7 days smoke free!  They call it Hell Week for a reason.  Heck Week should be a little bit better, then you're on your way!  I saw a sticky note on somebody's desk last week that read "note to self - it is illegal to stab stupid people".  LOL!  Keep drinking lots of iced water to flush the remaining toxins out of your body.  And just remember that in the past we used cigarettes as a way to hide our feelings and escape stupid people.  Find a new "happy spot", whether its a physical location or just a special place in your thoughts.  I hope you have a wonderful reward planned to celebrate your success!

Lori,

Congrats on making it though week 1!!!  You are doing great and remember to reward yourself!!  I also went through the emotional rollercoaster, it does get better.  Remember your coping skills and put them in place.  This next week may be rough also but there is no doubt in my mind that you can do it!  We are all here cheering you on.  AND, I know what you mean about being a young single mom...  I was one and I got the same speech from everyone!

Try to keep a sense of humor about things. Let it just roll off your back like the nicodemon. You're doing great. Hang in there!

Congratulations Lori
The mood swings are common. We feel a void and we were used to hide our emotions with cigarrettes that now that this crutch is lost we feel grumpy or sad or angry. But if you need to yell or cry do it!.The only thing you can't do is light a cigarrette.
So hang on, it gets better!

Congrats on making it through a week! You are not alone with the attitude.  Had some good 'ol road rage in the car a couple times this week (lesson to drivers, do not cutoff someone that is going through nicotine withdrawl!), and need to repair a hole in the wall in my house from getting frustrated (no, I didn't hit it THAT hard, just caved in).  If you make someone upset in a mood from the withdrawl, tell the person what is happening, usually they will let you slide for a while...  My whole workgroup (a group of about 20 of us) already knows to not push me too far for a while, and knows what is happening (and is actually a decent source of support).

Apparently, the mood swings will be gone soon from what I am hearing and what happened when I quit before.  Now to just get the chatter gremlin out of our heads!

Hi Lori,
Wow... look at you go!  Seven days!!!

Crying and emotions may be normal at this point but still unnerving.  I was crying like a baby all through my second week and I was on the patch.  Then I was yelling at everybody. My poor old hubby... he looked at me as if my head was spinning 360 * like in the Exocist.  He was just waiting for the pea soup to fly out!

There is no more "safe" zone to retreat into... the smoking zone.  That was where the blue cloud of smoke was to hide behind.  Takes awhile to find out the new way to handle things. It was a difficult phase but it did let up after awhile. You just have to tough it out. If you got through Hell Week you are tough enough.
That Nicodemon is sneaky!  Yelling or crying... he will try anything to get you off kilter and back in the haze.
Just yell at him.. I hate smoking! It stinks!

Hey, remember that pillow??? Time to scream?

Your picture shows what a pretty young lady you are.  To quit now will give you a long wonderful life to live with your son.  You are doing the right thing.  Ask anyone of us old bats... we sure wish we had been smart like you and quit in our 20s. By the time you are our age you probably won't remember you smoked. And I'll be dead. Ok, now you can start crying again, it's justified.  ;)

You're doing so awesome!  Hang in there!
Best,
HP

Lori,

Quite normal, just don't act on it! Take some time and give your mind and body a rest, it is still healing.  try doing something for you!

Congrats on 1 week!

Hang in there Lori! You will be extra emotional for a while - it's perfectly normal! Rant all you want, (there are lots of weird people out there!) We understand because we have been there! You are doing great, and it gets better every single day, watch your meter count the days! Time to notice the little goodies coming your way, you should be seeing a bit more color in your face, clearer skin, not to mention easier breathing! YUP! There is evidence that you are healing! You go girl!

AWESOME job Lori........Be Proud.......

Second week is Heck week....not as bad as Hell week because most of the physical withdrawal is gone.  The mental battle begins now.
Your addict, junkie, nicodemon......whichever you choose to call him starts trying to wear you down.  This is when you learn why N.O.P.E. is SO important.  Each time you say no and beat the addict back it gets a little easier.
NEVER worry about ranting........we all did it.  Rant and yell all you need to.....that's what we're for and get an old pillow and beat it up....it helps.!!!  Read my blog about how I felt.

You have a great attitude and Quit going........REWARD yourself big for this.......

Keep the Quit
Huggggggg
Bob
