Great job!  Glad to hear it is going well.  You are almost through hell week.   I keep reaching for my pack all the time... gum that is!  That helps me get through.  A yorkie, eh?  How cute, love small dogs, as evidenced with the picture of my pomeranian!  6 pounds of fluff named Grizzly.

Hey Rock - you'll never guess what my new Yorkie's name is - Bella!! All four pounds of her. My weekend went okay, a few cravings but more psychological than physical I think. So I got up off me arse and kept as busy as my back would allow! No feeling sorry for myself, no wishful thinking, no remembering the "good old days" before we knew the truth about cigarettes! Good old days my foot! I remember ashtrays in my ob's office when I had my first son! No more ignorance - no more excuses! Take care and thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Karren - and thanks for the kind words - everyone here is so friendly. On one other attempt, I found a stop smoking site, but there were a lot of personality clashes and I just figured it wasn't worth it if I was gonna turn out like that, lol. I know now that was my excuse and didn't have a lot to do with them. Any reason would have done.
I traced my ancestory on my Dad's side and we come from one of three brothers who sailed over on a ship called the America in the mid 1600's. We are from Gravesend Kent. I've always dreamed of visiting England - I had a friend who lived in London - Jennifer Mills. She gave cookery classes and sometimes took a class to Amalfi, Italy. I really would like to get in touch with her but have no idea if she is still in London or remarried. She came over here to Oklahoma and married the doctor I worked for.So, I'll just have to save my smoking money and try to take a holiday in England!
Today is Day Five and I still find myself reaching for my pkg - kinda like feeling the hole where a tooth was pulled, smile.
I'll go now and hope to talk more in the future.
Blessings,
Joyce

Hey Joyce!!!

Congrats and welcome!!!  I, too, was so happy to find this site!  Having such a great support group behind me was absolutely detrimental to my success...  along with the Chantix!

Anyways, we're all here to help, so if you have any questions or just want to vent, just post!!!  You CAN do this!!!

Hi Joyce!
Welcome to SCC!
You had made the best decision of your life. Like Impala said, kicking the nasy addiction for good is a rollercoaster ride!
It is a challenging but empowering process. You ae really prepared to do it. It's easier to defat our enemy if whe know it.
And you know it, you had gone trough my program and understood your own addiction.
Read as much as you can. I have the Allen Carr Book by my night stand. I have read it twice. It gives you a positive attitude. It can be done. If I can do it, you can do it! You already received wonderful advice from really caring people,I giving you my quitting tricks:
The Allen Carr Book
This site
post and read as much as you can
ice water
nonsugar added fruit juices
carrot and celery sticks
popsicles
rest as much as you can
hot showers
straws cut the size of a cigarrette
write down my ten reasons to quit and read them every night
a reward system
Making this the number one priority in your life.

Rock and others suggest to change your daily routine so the smoking triggers are less intense. And you should be commited to your decision. Have no doubts. I know for sure that you have the right frame of mind.
You are not leaving your friend behind, you are breaking apart from  an enslaver that wants everything from you..  Your freedom, your health, even your life........
So hang on! We are rooting for your success!!!!!

Joyce, welcome to SSC. Your introduction was so positive and hopeful, I have a real good vibe reading it through. We are all absolute proof that quitting is do-able, however much we were formerly addicted. The support here combined with the patches and your very own PMA, are a winning combination believe me!
So welcome again, talk with us regularly and let us know how you're doing-----and oh I had a little Yorkie called Sammy for 18 years too! I actually come from Yorkshire where they originate from! So enjoy your little Princess!

grlpoet,

Welcome to the boards and congratulations on making the decision to become a non-smoker! It really sounds like you are prepared for this quit! It also sounds like you have thought about your reasons for quitting smoking, this is something that will motivate you throughout your quit and serve as a reminder for your reasons for quitting smoking.

Take some time to look around the site and the resources available here. Many members have reported them useful in their quit.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing, we are here for you!
